Centennial of Flight
First Flight National Monument
Kitty Hawk / Kill Devil Hill NC - 2003
The following pages contain pictures that were taken at Kitty Hawk North Carolina on July 21, 2003, about 5 months shy of the 100th anniversary of the Wright brother's first powered flight which took place on December 17, 1903.
The location of the Wright Brother's camp at Kitty Hawk is now a national monument. All that you see are reproductions. None of the original remains. The original airplane reproduced in the photographs was destroyed during flight testing that day. The buildings were cheep temporary shelters, thrown up for the short time the Wrights and their helpers were at Kitty Hawk. They were destroyed by storms long before anyone thought to make this a memorial.
