Since long before Pirates of the Caribbean came out, pirates have fascinated many of us. Pirates Terror on the High Seas was written by Angus Konstam and illustrated by renowned historical painting enthusiast Angus McBride.

Pirates Terror on the High Seas offers a solid overview on pirate activities from roughly 1660 to the anti-piracy campaign of the 1820s. Some of chapters of interest are:

  • The Pirate Crew
  • Private Warfare
  • Pirate Dens
  • Pirate Plunder
  • Pirate Captains and Characters
  • The Buccaneers and Their Victims
  • The Buccaneering Art of War
  • Privateering Vessels

This is only a small selection. The hardback book comes in a little under 200 pages but has quite a bit of information packed into it. There are also a number of handsome full-color paintings of such events as pirate captain Henry Every and crew attacking a ship, Captain Kidd burying his treasure, and pirate flags of well-known pirates. Simple but sufficient maps delineate pirate hunting grounds. Sketches of weapons and ships are of particular interest to those who love details.

Pirates Terror on the High Seas
is interesting enough to read all the way through, but is broken up so that it could easily be read in sections. It's a good choice for a pirate fan.
