Session Etiquette

This is an intermediate session of Celtic (primarily Irish) tunes and songs. Musicians of varied ability are all welcome with the understanding that experienced players will keep a reasonable tempo and novices will play the tunes they know. Not every instrument is appropriate for Celtic music. Whatever you do should compliment the music.

LISTEN!!!: Irish music has a lilt that is not indicated on printed music. Get the tune and the beat in your ear before you join in.       LEADING: If you’re starting a tune, please give the name and the key.                            BACK-UP: The leads usually synchronize with one guitar player - be sure that player is being heard above you - and please use that player's chords. The bodhran (Irish frame drum) is the only appropriate drum for Irish music and is best enjoyed one-at-a-time.                            VOCALS: Instruments should lay back so the vocalist can be heard. If it’s "acappella" (without instruments) the vocalist should indicate this. Vocalists should choose "chorus rich" songs, so that all may join in.                             COURTESY TO OUR HOSTS: (a) Please keep instrument cases and self out of the way. (b)  Kindly remember our waitperson with a tip.

HOPE YOU CAN JOIN US!
