The Florida "Election" Just the facts ma'am, just the facts.
The Florida republicans, lead by Secretary of State Kathleen Harris, defined the election debacle which led the US Supreme Court to select George Bush as President of the United States. They did so by resorting to what many like to call the Big Lie. If you tell a lie long enough, in this case that Gore didn't win and that "hanging chads" were not valid evidence of a voter's preference, then people will come to accept it - if not exactly believe it. Adolf Hitler [a man whom Bush and other Republicans love to mention when needed a convenient name to call their enemies] said it best. "The size of the lie is a definite factor in causing it to be believed, because the vast masses of a nation are in the depths of their hearts more easily deceived than they are consciously and intentionally bad. The primitive simplicity of their minds renders them more easy victims of a big lie than a small one, because they themselves often tell little lies but would be ashamed to tell big ones. Such a form of lying would never enter their heads. They would never credit others with the possibility of such great impudence as the complete reversal of facts. Even explanations would long leave them in doubt and hesitation, and any trifling reason would dispose them to accept a thing as true. Something therefore always remains and sticks from the most imprudent of lies, a fact which all bodies and individuals concerned in the art of lying in this world know only too well, and therefore they stop at nothing to achieve this end." Elections have ended in dispute ever since the founding of our Republic. The big difference is that, since elections are under the control of individual States, any problems or irregularities were always settled in State court. The Republicans didn't like that the Florida State Supreme Court found in favor of Al Gore so they appealed the decision to a court where the deck was stacked and where they knew they would win. Harris has since gone on to demonstrate further that she has no idea of election law in her own state. Home · Lies · Perfidy · Hypocrisy · A Primer on Fascism · WAR!!!
