Took the day off work to enjoy San Francisco's Festival of Sail event. I was a guest on board the USCGC Tern, and a finer day out on the Bay could not be had!
These are the men and women of the Tern (WPB-87343), along with some of her command. The Tern is a 87' Marine Protector Class Coastal Patrol Boat based out of San Francisco, CA. and is captained by LT Nordhausen.
The Marine Protector Class vessels normally have a crew of 10, operate within a range of 900 miles, with a maximum speed of around 26 knots. Among their missions are Search and rescue, anti-smuggling, homeland security, and illegal immigration. This class vessel has the capability to launch and recover a rigid hull inflatable while underway via the stern launching ramp.
Used a Nikon D200 w/ a 70-300mm VR lens, and a D50 w/ a 18-55mm lens. Mostly shot in shutter priority exposure mode, with Single autofocus.
