These are my shots of the V-22 Osprey, and Airbus A320 at the 2008 San Francisco Fleet Week air show.

Used a Nikon D200 w/ a 70-300mm VR lens.

The V-22 Osprey is a hybrid between a helicopter and an airplane. With the nacelles pointing straight up, it can hover like a helicopter. With the nacelles pointing forward, it flies and handles like a normal airplane. The V-22 however, has had a long and controversial development. It has recently begun to be operationally used though, so hopefully all the bugs have been worked out.

I was able to get some rotor blur by shooting at 1/60sec. But shooting that slow is tough at full zoom, and I got lots of blurred shots to show for it. :-)

These next couple of shots are from the boat, and I didn't even try to go that slow on the shutter. Something about the deck rocking and rolling beneath me! This shot shows the nacelles in normal horizontal flight position.

The nacelles are in transition in this shot. Going from veritcal to horizontal.

The Virgin America's Airbus A320 was an unusual participant in the air show.

Made a couple of passes - first with the gear down...

Then a final pass with the gear up. Would have been great pictures if he was lower... say 20ft off the deck? :-)
