BZ's Nellis '08 - B-52 page

The B-52 Stratofortress made a brief appearance at the Nellis AFB air show. Basically one pass, then landed. It took off earlier in the day before the base was open to the public (saw it from the bus), too far for pics.

Used a Nikon D200 w/ a 70-300mm VR lens, and D50 w/ a 18-105mm VR lens.

The B-52 'BUFF' looks intimidating even just sitting there.

The B-52 has over 50 years of continous service with the United States Air Force. Very few military aircraft have lasted that long!

The BUFF did one quick flyby at Nellis.

A classic, and unmistakable shilouette.

And who can forget Slim Pickens riding the atomic bomb down from a B-52 in the movie 'Dr. Strangelove'?

Here he is deploying a parachute to help slow down after landing.

The B-52 is supposed to be kept in service till 2040. That's just hard to imagine!

It's an economical platform which gets the job done!
