BZ's Nellis '08 - Jet Car

Smoke-n-Thunder is the Air Force Reserves Jetcar.


Sporting a Westinghouse J34-48 jet engine, it generates 10,000 horsepower and 6,000 pounds of thrust with afterburner.


The Jet car weighs only 2,300lbs and carries 40 gallons of fuel. Top speed around 400mph!


Here's the jet car racing the Red Bull Mig-17.


Sorry to say, the race is a bit rigged. The Mig-17 was not going anywhere near full throttle!


Still, it's pretty impressive that the jet car can catch up from a stand still!


Here's Bill Braack, the driver of the jet car. What a thrill it must be to be strapped into a jet engine on wheels! I for one, am happy to experience it from a distance. :-)
