Nellis Air Force Base hosted the Aviation Nation air show as the season finale for the Air Force Thunderbirds. As it stands, it's the last show of the year for me as well. How was it? Pretty darn good I'd say!
Compared to last years' show (which was HUGE), there were fewer performers and displays. As a consequence, the crowds were a bit thinner as well. Still, it was a big show with great demos from F-16s, F-15, F-18, F-22, C-17, B-52, parachutes, and various civilian performers like the RedBull, and Oracle teams.
As in the past, visitors had to park at the Speedway and take the shuttle bus in. Having learned the hard way, I prefer to park in the 'Red' lot nowadays. The bus situation this year looked fairly organized, but the lines for the 'Blue' lot were still scary long leaving the show.
Facing a 9 hour drive each way, we elected to stay just for the Saturday show. Would have liked to stay for Sunday as well, but the kids have school Monday. The hard part as always, was getting there. Driving all night long fighting to stay awake isn't really all that much fun, but I think it was worth it!
Since I broke it up by subject matter for Fleetweek, I'll do it again here. Nothing like setting a precedent huh? :-)
Special thanks to the men and women of Nellis AFB for allowing me the opportunity to get these great shots!
