Lovely, esp. "Daughter of the Moon."
Daughter of the Moon
The greatest blessing a person can know,
Is created by us in the seeds that we sow.
To grow a garden of flowers takes nurturing care,
For each one to thrive requires specialized care.
What makes one bud blossom, can wilt another.
Each plant as different as sister and brother.
In planting our garden we had no design,
But counted on intervention divine.
Water and sun and kind words should suffice
To nurture each bud so it fully can thrive.
But the experienced gardener knows more than that.
What grows in the sun, in the shade will fall flat.
With a tender, bright bloom well on her way,
We hoped for another to turn out the same.
But the December flower that blooms in the night
Has far different needs than the one in the light.
In time the master gardener learns to cultivate both
So each bloom can shine on its’ own separate path.
And you came to us as moon to the sun,
A new set of rules that had to be run.
No manual found for the bloom in the shade,
No mere opposite from the one in the glade.
One cannot thrive in the shadow of the other,
Each requires separate care from the gardener.
What seemed in opposition at first,
Meant the wordsmith had to find a new verse.
In time the gardener finally got it right,
And found what made you bloom in the night.
The December bloom is as fragrant as June,
I thank my lucky stars for the daughter of the moon.
