Here's our C30 when we first got her ready at St. Joseph, Michigan.

Warren Dunes, Michigan, during our delivery trip from St. Joseph.
Out and About:

Captain Ed.

First Mate Lucy.

Is this a great skyline or what? With the Sears Tower behind us, we're out for an afternoon sail.

Passing by the new Soldier Field, Adler Planetarium, Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium.

Heading back out southeast.

Nothing but open water now. The Michigan shoreline is straight ahead. One of these days, we cross.
With Family and Friends:

June, 2004 during Fleet 21's Photo Cruise.

Out with Jean, Harry and Brian, with Harry at the helm.

Christina and Jean.

Out for the evening with friends from work. Marj, Mike, Ed and Jim.

Lucy helping our guests aboard. We had a nice dinner then headed out.

Alex takes a break from photo duties with the city behind him.
On the Hard:

Getting our new boat ready at St. Joe.

The municipal marina has great harbor facilities and friendly staff, but the storage areas require mast down. Note the overhead power lines!

Clean up work at St. Joe continues.

Lucy and I made a few trips over from Chicago, getting our new boat ready for launch. We could have kept the winter storage location, but the trip was simply too far to bring her over and back from Chicago each season. Although, we did see other boats who slipped at Chicago stored here.

On the hard after our first season with Valhalla. This is at a place on the Calumet River.

They discouraged use of cradles, hence the jack stands. There are a number of yards about 6 NM from the river mouth. 2 fixed bridges (clearance 29') necessitate making the trip mast down, however.

Covered for winter 2003-2004.

We got a custom-fitted canvas cover with the boat, but it was so weather-worn, it lasted exactly one week, splitting apart in a windstorm.

The old cover went into the trash, and replaced with a stock 40' x 25' blue tarp from Boat US. 1/2" PVC lashed to the lifeline stanchions made up the framing.

Launch Day 2004.

Valhalla has been christened, renumbered and ready to get her bottom wet.

At Crowley's yard, Calumet River at 95th Street, Fall 2004.

We are now able to cruise and store mast up with much less wear and tear (on us as well as the boat).

The yard is completely paved and we were able to use our cradle again, getting it our from our back yard. Note the repaint job on the cradle. It was pretty rusty before taking a grinder, sander and a few coats of anti-rust paint.
