Cape Dory Rendezvous 2001 was a lot of fun. We sailed as
part of a growing flotilla to get there with our crew member Ed
Haley. Our first stop was City Island, NY on Friday the 13th.
I know, I know, the day lived up to its reputation too. Shall
I start at the beginning?
Ed Haley arrived Thursday evening, July 12th. We put him to work right away.
Bruce noticed water pooling under a fitting on the hot water tank. He asked Ed to check the fitting. After putting a wrench on the fitting and giving it a turn, he immediately found the problem -- a big crack. Ed made tracks to the ship's store at Lockwood's and purchased the part and installed it. Bruce and I continued provisioning and readying Realization for our cruise. I left Ed around 10:00 p.m. and headed home.
Friday morning we loaded up the van with the remainder of our cruise supplies. They didn't all fit in the van so I had to load up my car as well. Then it was off to the pet spa with Cimon and a traumatic, as always, farewell. Then to the boatyard. We continued loading up the boat, and to our surprise managed to stow everything. I had installed two new gear hammocks on either side of the forepeak and I must say that I was glad I did. I filled each hammock and there was still plenty of room for Bruce and I to sleep. All clothing was stowed in lockers rather than keeping them in duffles -- that way we wouldn't be constantly moving them from one side of the boat to the other. I placed one of Ed's duffles in the locker beneath the port settee and thought we'd have to stow his other duffle in the quarterbeth, but he proceeded to empty both duffles into that locker. I provided him a big tote bag to store the overflow items which we stored in the forepeak while underway. With everything stowed, Realization was safe and neat -- shipshape.
