VEGETA'S HEART

CHAPTER FIVE

CELL

Gohan and Trunks move closer to examine their startling discovery.

Bulma stares at it and asks “Please whatever that is, tell me it’s dead!”

“It’s not alive anyway, but looks almost like an insect moult.” Says Gohan.

“You mean like a cicada?” Asks Bulma. “ A bug?”

“Yeah. But this isn’t a cicada, it’s something else.” answers the young scholar.

“And it’s huge.” Adds Trunks and then says thoughtfully, “And I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that whatever hatched from that eggshell we found, matured and came out of this thing not very long ago.”

To check his guess, Trunks reaches inside the strange pupae-like casing and finds that his suspicions are correct, it’s still ...moist inside! He pulls his hand back out and it’s covered with disgustingly dripping green goo. “Whatever it is it has to have only just emerged from this shell.”

Bulma stares in disgust at the mucus coating Trunks hand, “EEHHUU!”

The three start to glance around apprehensively, each wondering where the thing is and if it‘s still around watching them.

Bulma squeals slightly at a rustling sound, “What?!”

But is relieved when she realizes it was only the breeze in the bushes, ...she hopes.

The blue haired woman can and has faced down things that most people would runs screaming from. Egomaniacal tyrants, entire armies self proclaimed demons and even disgusting aliens, but if Bulma has one weakness it’s bugs!!!

She has this thing about them!!! They’re just so creepy crawly and judging from the size of that cast-off casing, this is one big nasty looking insect. Even if it only has four legs instead of six, it still looks like a bug!

She’s getting the willies just looking at the casing. Bulma glances over at the two Saiyan youths and asks shakily, “Tell me I’m not the only one getting creeped out by this, am I?”

The two boys nod their agreement to her feelings.

The three huddle up and discuss their discovery, then decide to split up.

Bulma will return to Capsule and study the egg, she can at least manage that much. She couldn’t even bring herself to even touch the casing though.

The two boys will go back to Roshi’s to help protect Goku. And inform the others of this new discovery.

Having seen the demi-Saiyans and Bulma make their strange discovery from the lookout Kame’ is beginning to suspect that this thing that they've found maybe is the source of the disquiet he had been sensing for the last few years.

As the three depart for their differing destinations, Earth’s aged but wise Guardian widens the area of his observations until his attention is drawn to a lessening of life forces in one of the nearby cities.

Narrowing his ‘gaze’ Kame finally beholds the monstrous cause of the sense of impending doom that he had felt for so long. A danger that far outweighed the one posed by the androids!

A strange green creature is predatorily stalking the town’s streets. Attacking anyone and everyone it encounters, then literally sucking the life from each of it’s victims.

Repelled by the grotesque creature, a greatly disturbed Kame now knows that it is indeed vital that he fuse with Piccolo. Not only to thwart the androids plans but to enable the Namekian warrior to counter this greater threat. At least until Goku is recovered enough to face this more perilous challenge.

Before submitting to the fusion Kame fully and carefully warns Piccolo of this new danger, then with a touch of Piccolo’s hand the two finally merge. But not to recreate the original form, that had been impossible ever since the original Diamoa had died. And even if Piccolo was the reincarnation of Diamoa, he was not exactly Diamoa and then he had altered again, when had merged with Nail on Namek.

So this new fusion was so much greater than very would have been possible if only Diamoa had rejoined with Kame. It’s accomplishment creates a far stronger, Super Namekian warrior, one with power on par to that of a Super Saiyan!

As Trunks and Gohan fly towards Roshi’s the older demi-Saiyan ponders everything they’ve discovered so far.

The discovery of the older second time capsule troubles him. How had Cell even acquired his ship in the future? Why hadn’t he stopped it? Did something happen to him in the future? Or is this a manifestation of even another time reality? Meaning there’s a third timeline in existence too?

He grimly wonders if this is the reason everything has been altered so much in this timeline, from the history he grew up knowing.

Whatever it is, he’s determined to prevent it from happening here.

The now newly strengthened and enhanced Piccolo/Kame fusion leaves the lookout. He uses Kame’s talents to search until he finally locates this new threat that his other half had sensed. He finds it dragging a single living hostage out of a building. The last inhabitant of the now depopulated city of Ginger Town.

Confronted, the creature drops it’s captive only to attack the man with it’s stinger, withering and absorbing him leaving nothing but empty clothing. Thus revealing it’s method of feeding on and gathering it’s victims life energy. After which it turns it’s attention to the Namekian warrior in front of it.

As they face off the creature, speaks and greets Piccolo by name. Then to the Namekian’s astonishment then claims to be his brother!

As it raises it’s ki to fight Piccolo/Kame. The Namek is startled to feel multiple but very recognizable ki signatures emanating from his weird looking foe.

In the wilderness Vegeta, who is still furious about his defeat, is deep in thought trying to devise stratagems to use against the androids. When he suddenly senses the surge and clash of two enormous new powers. His interest is suddenly roused by this unexpected appearance of the two strange increased ki signatures.

What in the hell are they and where did they come from?

It can’t be the androids because he knows they have no discernable signatures!

Vegeta is completely mystified. He has to know!

Normally power levels that high, would be enough to draw his immediate attention. But the two ki signatures themselves are so odd, that it even distracts him from his anger at his own failure, drawing his attention and arousing his curiosity. The Saiyan Prince is extremely puzzled by the fact that both aura’s are so tantalizingly familiar!!

One seems to be a completely ridiculous sensation while the other appears to be a very garbled amalgamate, with sensations of several beings he knows, both living and dead. Which would be as equally impossible as the first!

The already agitated Prince, decides that he needs to locate the source of this newest development. And what it might mean, so he leaves the desolation of his private retreat to investigate. But before he can reach the source, one of the powers suddenly vanishes, whether snuffed out or suppressed he doesn‘t know.

At the turtle hermit’s house the others had been listening to the news broadcast of the strange happenings in Ginger town, when Gohan and Trunks had arrived. Then when the battle between Piccolo/Kame and Cell had commenced they too had felt the strange but still familiar multiple/single ki signature. They could sense all those impossibly familiar ki’s coming from one spot, an odd uniting of Frieza, King Cold, Goku ,Vegeta and Piccolo ki‘s into a single signature.

Trunks and Krillian decided to go investigate it.

While battling Piccolo/Kame, the strange winged insectoid looking creature startles the Namek when it uses Goku’s Kamehameha to attack! Then phasing behind the Namek, it captures Piccolo/Kame in a vise-like arm and leg grip while attempting to ‘sting’ him, so it can absorb Piccolo’s life force just as it had the humans. But the emerald warrior manages to struggle, moving just enough that the needle like tail hits and penetrates into his arm instead of his body. Disappointed but not thwarted the creature then proceeds to suck the life from the limb, withering it. Before the creature can do more, Piccolo/Kame manages to head butt it in the face and breaks free, then trying to buy time he uses the excuse of weakness to persuade the creature to tell him about itself.

The sacrifice of his arm succeeds tricking it into revealing what it was and where it originated.

The creature certain of victory, names itself Cell. And claims to be Dr. Gero’s ultimate creation, come back from the future. It tells Piccolo/Kame that it was created and cloned from DNA harvested from all of the mightiest warriors on or ever come to Earth! And even now, hidden in secret sub basement, his embryo is developing in a special container in Gero’s lab.

Cell reveals that Goku, Vegeta, himself, Frieza and King Cold as well as the other Z warriors had all been unwitting donors for it‘s creation. It then triumphantly informs the Namekian warrior that after killing Trunks in the future, who had destroyed the androids in his time. Cell had then stolen the time capsule in order to come back and absorb the androids before the youth could eliminate them. Claiming that it needs the two to become complete and perfect itself.

Now aware of what Cell is Piccolo/Kame rips off now his useless arm and regenerates a new one. Just as he’s just about to destroy Cell, Trunks and Krillian appear. The creature realizing it’s danger, uses their arrival as a distraction giving it enough time to generate Tien’s taiyo-ken, thus blinding the three, and making it’s escape, suppressing it‘s ki as it does so, so they cannot trace it’s location.

Vegeta who is still in route to the strange ki sources, suddenly swears he feels the vibes of Kakarot’s Kamehameha. Even though, at the same time, he can still sense that the other Saiyan is in a very weakened state and still ill at Roshi’s island!

When he finally arrives at the battle site, the Saiyan Prince finds his son from the future, along with Krillian and amazingly one of the remaining sources of the two enormously odd ki’s. Which turns out, to the Prince’s astonishment, to be ...PICCOLO!

The Namekian's ki level is now almost equal to that of his own when he is Super Saiyan level!

Vegeta is furious at this new development and demands an explanation from the Namek warrior. “What in the hell is going one here?”

The green warrior’s response is only, “Tien is coming, I’ll explain when he arrives.”

Not to be put off the Saiyan Prince continues, “If you really are Piccolo, at least tell me how in the hell you got all this power all of a sudden!”

Before Piccolo/Kame can answer, Krillian pipes up, “He and Kame merged.”

“Wh...” stutters the Prince, “How.., that’s it, that’s all... and he’s this strong from it?!”

Vegeta is stunned.

No Namek has ever been able to equal a Saiyan let alone a Super Saiyan!!! This is utterly impossible! How can such a thing be happening?

When Tien finally arrives Piccolo/Kame explains everything. Revealing what he now knows about Cell to his astonished comrades. They are shocked by the enormity the threat from Dr. Gero‘s final creation. The Namekian warrior concludes his explanation with the comment that the threat is far greater that they realize and that more than just the Earth is endangered by this new menace, since Cell carries Frieza’s DNA, the galaxy itself may be at risk because it could also have inherited the tyrant’s overweening ambitions.

To which Vegeta then comments dryly, “Don’t forget it also carries mine as well!”

Causing the others to turn and stare at the Saiyan Prince.

Vegeta growls, especially angered by the thought that someone would even dare to use his cells for such a purpose, it infuriates him. And to make matters worse it now seems as if everything he has worked his whole life for is being surpassed at every turn and not just by that third-rate Kakarot.

The Super Saiyan was supposed to be the most powerful being in the universe, but now it seems that even that has been matched and surpassed by Piccolo a mere Namek, the androids and now this freakish created thing from an alternate future!

When the merged Piccolo/Kame then begins to outline a plan of action, indicating that they should try to either kill Cell or the androids before they can merge.

Vegeta objects, vehemently. “Petty plots! Let that abomination merge with the androids!” The Saiyan Warrior Prince adds with a grimace. “I prefer one glorious battle. It would be far better that three mediocre ones and much less trouble! I could care less what my enemies do before I kill them! Just as long as they die!”

“Hold it Vegeta, don’t underestimate Cell! ” snaps Piccolo/Kame, “It’s is a lot stronger than both those androids combined and you couldn’t even beat one of them!”

Still disturbed by the outcome of that battle the Prince explodes in anger once more , now that his earlier defeat has been brought up, “DON’T EVEN PREACH AT ME, NAMEK!!!!... YOU COULDN’T EVEN STAND UP TO THEM FOR FIVE SECONDS!!! DO YOU WANT ME TO SHOW YOU WHAT I COULD DO TO YOU IN THAT LENGTH OF TIME?!”

Vegeta’s anger flares his ki, “I’ll show you what a true warrior is capable of accomplishing, I’ll surpass even the Super Saiyan!!! Transcend it!!!”

Trunks stare in awe at his father, “Tr... transcend!?!! The Super Saiyan? I.., is that even possible?’

Vegeta smirks, “I’m certain of it and Kakarot will do the same, but I will do it before him!!”

The others gape in shock at the Saiyan Prince.

He glances back at them, smirking, “Do whatever you like, make your futile useless attempts! I will return when I am ready.”

The Prince blast off and streaks away back to the solitude of his remote sanctuary, to mediate and discover the method he needs to accomplish his goal.

Vegeta is still driven to prove himself once and for all. His Saiyan bloodlust demands that he battle with the strongest foe anything else would be dishonorable. To him it seems that it would be far more desirable to fight and defeat one ultimate foe than three weaker ones. And when he accomplishes it, it will show them all that he is just as worthy, just as deserving of the title hero as any of them are!

The Saiyan Prince has resolved that he has to be the one to destroy this threat. He will show all these baka’s and especially Kakarot, what a real Saiyan Warrior truly is!

There has to be a way to surpass the Super Saiyan, if these other weaklings can surpass their natural limits, so can he!!!

Vegeta will find a way, he has too!! He is the Prince of all Saiyans, no one... no one will ever be more powerful than he!!!

Piccolo/Kame stares skeptically after the Saiyan Prince, “Can Vegeta really be serious, is that even possible? To surpass the Super Saiyan?”

Trunks stares after his father, thinking ‘If dad says he can do it, then he must think he can.’

Krillian breaks into the boy’s thoughts, “So if you were to go back just a little and kill the androids nothing will change here, right?”

“Right, all it will do is change that timeline’s events not this one’s.” Says the youthful Saiyan time traveler.

“So if we went to Gero’s lab and killed Cell’s embryo nothing would change.” says Krillian.

“Yeah that‘s true, we’ll still have to fight the Cell we‘re facing now, but we should still go and do it. At least we’ll eliminate a another Cell in the future of this timeline.”

Piccolo/Kame nods in agreement, “You two go to Gero’s lab, and do that. Tienshinhan and I will look around and try to find Cell, or the androids.”

Krillian nods, “If you can’t locate any of them, come back to Turtle house, maybe there will be something on the TV.”

They split up and go off to accomplish their missions.

On the way to the remains of the insane genius’ lab, the son of Vegeta and Bulma ponders Vegeta’s words. ‘Father you are amazing, what mom told me is true! My father really is a remarkable man. It never even occurred to me that it would be possible to surpass the Super Saiyan form. But you realized it could be done. Oh father what else could you have taught me? If only we had had the time together.’

It’s then that the youthful Saiyan resolves, ‘I will not waste this opportunity, even if you still continue to rebuff me, dad. I’ll try to learn whatever I can from you.’

Trunks and Krillian soon arrive back at the devastated site of Dr. Gero’s lab. They search through the rubble until Trunks discovers a hole with a ladder leading down. The two levitate down and find what they came in search of, the hidden cavern that houses Cell’s embryonic capsule and the master computer that controls it.

The computer dominates the room and the clear capsule holds a tiny form.

Trunks walks over to the tube and stares at the small lifeform that pulses within. Bare inches long, it floats serenely in the clear amniotic fluid. Giving no indication or even hint of the death and destruction, the horrors it will be capable of when it reaches maturity. “Look Krillian, here it is. If we had left it, this would eventually have become Cell!”

Krillian is still glaring at the computer, a metallic monstrosity just by itself with mechanical arms and claws jutting out every which way. Angrily the little monk raises his hands, preparing to wreak total destruction on this antithesis of natural life.

“Come on Trunks lets do this and get out of here!” Says Krillian.

“No wait, I want to look around a bit, we might find something that could help.” Says the younger warrior.

Trunks may not be the genius that his mother is or the have the inborn battle savvy of his father but he did inherit both of his parents shrewdness.

The youth rummages through papers and files scattered over the tables and desk. Then he comes across a set of papers. Looking at it closely he starts to grin.

“Blueprints!!”

Krillian comes over, “For what, Cell?!”

“No.” says the youth, “ But something almost as good, they’re for #17.” Exults Trunks. “I’m sure that with these mom could find something. A flaw or a vulnerability that we could exploit.”

“That’s great!” The boy looks around, then raises his right hand, as he clutches the rolled up papers in his left. “Okay now let’s do it!”

The two begin blasting the contents of the cavern into so much shattered metal and glass fragments and rubble. Leaving nothing large enough to even indicate what it had been part of originally. Flames begin to erupt and they retreat.

Leaving the rubble to melt down in the ensuing inferno, they depart. As they’re heading back, Trunks makes a decision.

Passing the blueprints to Krillian he makes a request, “Could you get these to my mother?”

The monk glances at the youth, and notices a determined look on the boy’s face. “Why, aren’t you coming back with me?”

Trunks shakes his head, “I.., I’m going to go find Vegeta.. I want to train with him if he‘ll let me. Father believes it’s possible to transcend Super Saiyan, and if he does it, I want to do it too.”

“Yeah I guess I can understand your reasoning.” Says Krillian slowly, “But Trunks let me warn you, I doubt Vegeta will let you, he’d rather train alone.”

“I have to try.” Says the Prince’s son, “Truthfully I’m not even sure I want be around someone as cold and uncaring as Vegeta is, but whatever works. And I sure he realizes that it’s more efficient to work with someone that to try and do it alone.”

“You can only do whatever you think is best Trunks,” says Krillian, and as they part ways, the little monk calls to him, “Hey, good luck kid!”

The boy waves back with a rueful smile, “Thanks!”

Meanwhile Tien and Piccolo/Kame search for Cell. Sharpening and extending their ki sensing abilities as far as they can. The scan further and further afield.

Suddenly Tien feels a wavering in the auras, “There’s a variation over this way!”

The two zoom towards it. And arrive to find more devastation. With no sense of Cell. Again!

Their frustration is almost on a physical level as it emanates from them. This same scenario has repeated itself several times. They sense a fluttering or a flicker and they arrive only to find the leftovers of Cell’s attack. Piles of empty clothing in abandoned towns or villages.

“Damn it that thing is just too fast!” swears Piccolo. “We can’t catch it!”

“It detects our ki and runs.” Says Tien, “And if we keep ours suppressed there‘s no way, we’d make it in time. This is hopeless. There must be another way!”

Unknown to them Cell is watching, right above them, gloating as it suppresses it’s own ki. Chuckling at them, “You’ll never catch me it’s futile to try.”

Meanwhile Krillian has arrived at Capsule Corp. He quickly brings Bulma and her father up to speed on the events telling them both all about Cell and his quest for the two other androids.

Even informing her of Vegeta’s announcement about transcending Super Saiyan and Trunks determination to train with his father.

Then the little monk gives Bulma and her father the plans Trunks had discovered for 17.

“Wow..“ says Bulma, “so Trunks when after Vegeta huh? I hope he succeeds but that man can be so stubborn sometimes!” She shakes her head.

“And Trunks thinks I can find a weakness for you guys to exploit.” Then smiles. “Meanwhile you guys will be trying to find the androids before Cell gets a chance to merge with them.”

Bulma grins, “Well that proves he’s my boy! He‘s got his mom’s brains.”

Bulma’s father has opened the blueprints, and spread them out over the table, as she speaks.

“Incredible, Dr. Gero was certainly a genius of the highest caliber. Even I don’t understand all of this!!” He shakes his head sadly, “It’s a such shame he didn’t use his genius for the good of mankind.”

The two brilliant scientists, father and daughter, stare in awe at the complexities spread out before them.

Bulma picks up one of the pages and examines it more closely, something is bothering her about it and then suddenly she sees it. “Hey, dad if I’m reading this right Gero was an actual mad scientist! A real monster himself! These designs are based on human bodies! He had to have humans to start with, then he enhanced them with bio-organic components and a few cybernetics. That why this Cell creature will be able to fuse with them.”

Totally engrossed she spreads the sheet out on the table, “We’ll have to study these prints really closely and maybe we can find a weakness in the mechanisms.” If Gero could control his androids then maybe she can too!

Dr. Briefs glances at Krillian, “We’ll work on this as fast as we can son.”

“Great and thanks guys,” says Krillian, “I better be getting back.”

Vegeta has retreated back to the mountain fastness he prefers best for training in solitude, this particular spot is one of his favorites. The orange-red tumbled spires and rocky outcrops resemble those of his lost home world. It’s far from the distractions of human civilization and is where he had been staying during his self imposed exile from his mate. He stand motionless on a jutting outcrop.

He had felt the boy’s approach and arrival, but had ignored it.

The Saiyan Prince isn't certain how he feels about the fact that the boy had followed him. It shows a very Saiyan-like persistence, but Vegeta has trained alone most of his life. There were very few who had the capability to match his strength.

And he’d still rather keep his distance from this future version of his son. If for no other reason than the sake of Bulma's comfort and safety.

When he had landed, Trunks had approached and tried to talk to him. Insisting that he wanted to train with Vegeta. But Vegeta had rebuffed him, gruffly refusing, telling the youth that doing such a thing would only impede Vegeta’s progress.

Which was the truth but not in the way the boy took the Prince‘s meaning. Vegeta did nothing to clear the matter up though.

Just looking at Trunks was a distraction for the Saiyan Prince. The boy’s hair and eyes only brings thoughts of his mate to his mind.

Perhaps if he ignores him, he’ll go away. Vegeta dares not allow anymore contact, as he too had felt the bond linkage surge to life when Trunks body had impacted his, just before he lost consciousness. He hopes Bulma didn’t suffer the pain echoes for very long.

This Trunks is so much like his mother, it tears at Vegeta’s soul. Her sapphire eyes stare out of the boy’s face at him, just as hungrily as hers can at times. Bulma’s open emotional intensity is so very apparent in the boy from the future.

Vegeta can’t understand why he hadn’t noticed the resemblances in the youth the first time he saw him. Most likely he had been blinded by jealousy simply because the first time he saw him Trunks had been a Super Saiyan and at the time he had not yet reached that goal.

But the boy refuses to leave, Vegeta can sense him settling down to wait behind him as the Saiyan Prince ponders ways to attain the next level. But unseen, the Prince half smirks, ‘Figures he’s got his mother’s stubborn streak too. Baka woman and equally baka son.’ They have to be, otherwise there's no logical explanation for how could they care so much for someone like him.

Trunks composes himself and watchfully settles in, determined to remain near his father. Staring intently at the Saiyan Prince’s rigid back.

Vegeta smiles inwardly with a little tinge of regret colored by a hint of pride ‘It would be the determination that he gets from me!’

Not realizing himself, that determination is just another nicer word for stubborn.

Bulma’s determination is also in full swing, as she studies the blueprints for android 17. Her stomach roils as she realizes how truly evil Dr. Gero was. The crazed scientist, for that is what he had to be.. crazed, had actually taken and altered living people in his experiments!

Adult or at least mature humans, performing ghastly procedures on them. Changing them from normal every day people into almost soulless automatons. And for Kame’s sake he’d even done it to himself!

No wonder the androids all looked so different from each other. They had each once been real individual persons!

And the two that had just been reawakened, 17 and 18 had been just a couple of teenagers!!

No wonder they rampaged so violently in the future, having their life taken away from them at such a young age. With no purpose left, no direction and only eternity to look forward to. It must have driven what little humanity that they had had left completely mad.

If it was possible Bulma would have tried to reverse the alterations, but she can see from the blueprints of 17 that the changes had been too deeply integrated into the androids bodies.

Any such attempt would just kill them.

The blue haired scientist’s heart aches for the two young people, but now all she can do is find a way to deactivate them. And killing them would be a release of sorts, a kindness rather than a cruelty. They have lost almost all of their humanity. Dr. Gero had excised it from them as he had made his ‘improvements’ on their bodies.

The Saiyan Prince is staring deep into the sky, lost in contemplative meditation. His motionless regal pose seems endless.

Trunks has made several attempts over the course of time to approach, and talk to his father but Vegeta continues to reject him. So the boy had finally stopped but continues to abide silently behind him.

Vegeta knows that it’s possible to ascend, he senses that he could attain it if given just a little more time. But time is in desperately short supply, he too has felt the human ki sources being depleted. There has to be a way, he just needs to figure out how.

Damn that Kakarot! He always seemed to be able to find a way to increase his strength tremendously in a short space of time.

Why couldn’t Vegeta do the same?

As the Z fighters take turns posting guard over Goku‘s recovery. They also continue on in their quests, seeking signs of the three androids or trying to catch Cell.

The searches are being led by Piccolo, who due to his Namekian heritage needs little or no sleep.

But both endeavors are resulting in little success.

It’s completely impossible to sense and locate 16, 17 or 18 by normal ki methods. And while they do get flashes of ki from Cell, they never last long enough for them to reach it. The creature suppresses it’s own ki as soon as it senses theirs getting anywhere near it.

In frustration they finally take Yamcha suggestion of using mechanical transport to sneak up on Cell.

Piccolo is sitting in the back of the plane as far from the engines as possible. Deep in mediation, trying to block out the motors noises.

One of the main reasons he has always avoided cities, is that the engines of humanities progress grate irritatingly on his extremely sensitive hearing.

Suddenly the five passengers are startled when a seeming hale and hearty Goku appears in their midst. “Hey guys!”

“Daddy!” shouts Gohan happily.

Krillian says, “I wish.”

Until Piccolo/Kame exclaims, “GOKU!”

The little monk turns and sees that it is indeed his best friend. “Hey you are here!”

They’re all ecstatic to see him but still concerned, because they all know it’s still several days shy of the ten days Trunks had told them it would take for Goku’s complete recovery.

Yamcha grins, as Tien says ,“He must have used the instant transport technique!”

Turning to the look at the first time at the fused Piccolo/Kame Goku senses the change and grins.

“Hey your powers have really been increased by the fusion!” Then asks, “But gee what should we call you now? Kamolo or Picami?”

The Namek frowns, “Don’t try to combine the names. I’m still mostly dominated by Piccolo, just keep calling me that.”

“Hey bro you sure you’re well enough to be running around like this?” Asks Krillian.

“Pretty much, but don’t worry about it, I’ll be fine when the time comes. I just came to get Gohan. I hate to ask this but could you guys hold down the fort for just a couple more days?”

“I guess so, but why?” asks Krillian.

“Well, I know a place where I can get a year’s worth of training in the course of a single day.”

That startles an exclamation out of Piccolo, “The Room of Spirit and Time!!!? But no one has ever managed to stay in it for a full day. You only managed two hours when you were a kid, that’s barely a month inside!”

“I’m sure we can do it, and I want to take Gohan there. Along with Vegeta and Trunks too.” Says the Saiyan confidently.

“Well you better get a move on then.” Says Piccolo, “The longer you delay the more people Cell slaughters and it gains more power with every kill.”

“I know.” Says Goku grimly as he turns to his son, “Take my hand Gohan.”

His son take his father’s hand hesitantly. “O-okay, Dad.”

“Hey before you go, ya know that Cell is stronger that Frieza and his father combined. How does that make you feel, Goku? Excited, scared?” asks Krillian.

Goku smiles at his childhood friend, “Both.” And with that he and Gohan vanish.

Three days have passed and the boy continues to linger, the Prince knows without being told that the youth is determined to copy whatever he does. This Trunks definitely is his son, albeit from another reality, and tenacity is a well known trait of the Royal Saiyans. It had been one of the things that had kept Vegeta alive under his onerous captivity.

This brat from the future displays it too, proving , without doubt, that he is a true descendant of the Saiyan royal family.

The Prince had sensed that Kakarot is nearly recovered, and already zipping around all over the place. Vegeta notes with disgust the expected increase in his rival’s power as well.

It figures, only that eternally clueless but inevitably lucky baka could fall in a pile of shit and come up smelling like roses!

The Prince knows now it’s only a matter of time before the idiot shows up. Probably with some wild hair brained, half baked idea, that with his dratted luck, will work!!

Vegeta finally senses the sudden arrival, of the only other full blooded Saiyan on Earth and his son, behind him. He overhears the discussion between the youth from the future and his rival.

“ Huh! G.., Goku?” Stutters the boy in surprise at Kakarot's arrival.

“Hey, how's the training going Trunks?” Asks the baka, cheerfully.

“Not well, I guess my father really doesn’t want me to train with him.” Answers the purple haired youth. “He thinks I’ll slow him down and every time I get close, he tells me to get lost. Look at him! He’s not doing anything, he’s just been standing there, in the same spot staring off into space for the last three days. He hasn’t budged an inch.”

“Yeah that is strange, maybe he’s just waiting for a sign or something to show him the way, right. I’ll go have a word with him.”

“Hey!... Vegeta!” Kakarot flies over and lands right behind him.

“Kakarot just leave me alone!” Growls the Saiyan Prince.

“Hey, hold on, don’t be so grumpy.” says Kakarot, “I’m only wanting to help you out, Vegeta.”

“I don't need anyone’s help Kakarot so go away!” Spits the Prince through gritted teeth.

“I know what you’re trying to do.” Kakarot continues. “Just listen to me for a minute huh?”

Vegeta growls under his breath, “I suppose I have to you won't leave me alone until you do!”

He senses Kakarot’s stupid grin, “See there’s a room at Kame’s place where you can get a year of training in just one day.”

Vegeta pauses thinking , ‘This could be interesting after all.’

He glances over his shoulder commenting, “Hmm! If that’s true, I could ascend to the next level very quickly.” He half turns towards Kakarot, “Take me there!”

Kakarot beams, then says “Sure but here’s the problem, only two people can go into it at a once. I’m going in with Gohan so you’ll have to go in with Trunks.”

Vegeta turns around completely to glare at Kakarot, “This better not be another one of your tricks.”

That’s just what he needs, to have that puppy eyed brat hanging around him for a whole year!

“Hey would I lie to you? We’re all in this together now remember. This is on the level, I promise.” Says the younger Saiyan disarming waving raised hands.

“Alright I’ll go as long as I get to go in first!” Concedes Vegeta.

“Sure!” Kakarot nods in agreement, “And ya know this is a great way for a father and son to get to know each other.”

“Whatever, let’s just get it over with!” Growls the Saiyan Prince.

Kakarot takes off, leading the way.

Vegeta follows with, their two sons trailing.

Goku takes them straight to the lookout.

Vegeta had known the place existed but had never been told where it was, so this will be the first time he’s ever been to the Guardian of the Earth’s sacred home.

The four Saiyans quickly arrive at the lookout, where they are greeted by a smiling Mr. Popo.

The little rotund man has been alone for the last few days ever since Kame had fused with Piccolo and he’s not used it at all. He’s always had a Kame to serve, to care for, and it’s very lonely way up above the world when you‘re all by yourself.

So he’s was extremely happy to welcome the four visitors.

Vegeta stares at the ridiculous looking caretaker. If it’s possible this baka looks even more clueless than Kakarot!

Once Goku explains why they’ve come the dark skinned little man starts leading the group towards the chamber. “Please follow me, you will find everything you need in there. There’s plenty of food, beds and bath. But it’s not very luxurious I’m afraid.”

Kakarot follows Popo first, his son beside him, Trunks is behind them with Vegeta following in the rear.

The Prince glances about taking in the outlooks pristine manicured grounds.

“I require nothing more than the essentials.” Growls Vegeta. “This is not a vacation. This is work!”

“Ignore him Mr. Popo,” says Kakarot, to Vegeta's disgust. “He’s a little uptight today, he’s just eager to commence his training.”

“Yes so I can take care of you!” Vegeta smirks, to cover his indecision.

The Prince is still not certain of his final plans for Kakarot. Although he still wants to thoroughly defeat him, Vegeta no longer has the overwhelming desire to kill the only other full blooded Saiyan left alive. He just wants to prove that he is the superior warrior.

Popo stops in front of a large unremarkable looking door, “Here it is.”

Gohan remarks in awe, “Wow! So that’s the Hyperbolic time chamber huh!”
