I think I have a plan. I think I've figured out the steps I will take in the near future. But I'm not willing to share all of those yet. Tune in later for further developments.
I've seen multiple reports on a couple of Fascist Republican "presidential debates." So far we've got a gaggle of guys who don't believe in evolution, and at least one who'd like to see Guantanamo expanded, sort of like the way Disney added California Adventure right next to Disneyland, I guess. Folks, if any one of these lowlifes isn't laughed out of the building in 2008, then this country has no future. Period. Mark my words.
Currently listening to: been catching a lot of Real Time with Bill Maher via the podcasts lately. Just the audio; I think you have to pay for the video cast, and I ain't made of money. That said, the show really is thoroughly entertaining, and it's welcome to hear folks really laying down on the topics without feeling much need to censor themselves. The fact that the show's host, audience, and most guests are left-leaning probably helps; I'd have no interest if a dickhead like O'Reilly or Hannity was at the helm. But it really does give you a sense of the pulse, of what people are feeling--and more importantly, thinking and noticing--out there. If you get HBO, or are hip to podcasts, I recommend lending an ear.

Don't know how it happened, but the Golden State Warriors just eliminated the team with the best record in the NBA this season. It's being called the biggest upset in the history of the NBA, and I can't particularly argue, except to say that the Warriors seem to have had the Dallas Mavericks' number for two seasons now. Sometimes, match-ups are everything. I'm not ready to say this will revive my long dead interest in pro basketball, but I must admit I have been paying attention. We'll see what develops.
Had a job interview the other day, with the Contra Costa County Library. It didn't go well, mainly because the line of questioning delved into specifics of the position that were never mentioned in the posting. In fact, I went back and reread the posting after the interview, and whereas at first I had been just disappointed, that second review actually got me steamed. The job as advertised, and the job they want to fill, have little resemblence to each other. Really, what Contra Costa County wants to do is hire people to do librarian work while paying them support staff wages. And that's bullshit. No wonder public confidence in governmental institutions always drags so low.
Had a great trip to LA this last weekend. Was awestruck by the Getty Center Museum and it's fabulous collection of art works, enjoyed another model railroad layout in the Pasadena area, and got to spend two hours chilling out in the orbit of my dream girl, Reneé O'Connor. Plus I got a hot dog at Pink's in Hollywood, and hit up Tommy's on the way home. And almost all of it spending bonus money, not the dolllars in the bank. Can it get any better? Well, Reneé could have invited me over for dinner, but I suppose I should consider myself lucky I got what I got.
Currently watching: caught a few minutes (so far) of the return of Bill Moyers' Journal to PBS. I know Bill is in his seventies now, but I hope to hell he sticks around, because his reporting expertise is so desperately needed these days. Few others seem willing to bother, to make the effort to bring important matters to light in an intelligent and informative fashion. Make a point of tuning in sometime, so you can feel at least a little bit informed about the world around you. (Check local listings for channel and air times.)
Currently listening to: been going back into the CD collection and rediscovering my XTC albums. I have most of the highlights: Skylarking, Oranges & Lemons, Nonsuch. Needless to say, it's brilliant stuff, and a joy to rediscover.
Along the same lines, it's not here yet, but the new Crowded House album will be released soon; I think the target date is early June. That will no doubt have me doing figurative backflips for weeks on end.
