Success

Last July I bought a shelving unit for the bathroom, a "space saver" unit that is intended to stand over top of the toilet tank. All well and good, except when I put it together and tried to set it over the pot, the bottom shelf was too low to clear the toilet seat cover (when in the up position). Thus, the damn thing wound up sitting on the other side of the room, not saving space but taking up space.

It took me a while to get up the gumption to tackle this issue, but a trip to the hardware store this past weekend turned the trick. I got four threaded rods and fasteners, used them to extend the legs and PRESTO! I have reclaimed a good chunk of my bathroom space. See? I'm all about the 'can-do.'

Equilibrium

You all know I did some fine work picking winners in the NFL a few weeks ago, having successive 9 win weeks. Then came a dark streak: two straight weeks with only 7 winners picked, a losing record each week. Well, I revamped the thought processes, stuck with a lot of favorites and home teams, and lo and behold--I was rewarded. This week's record: 12-4.

I think there may be a valuable lesson in this: don't try to run the table by shooting for the extraordinary--stick with the surer things, suck it up on an upset here and there, and try to maximize overall winnings. This may apply not just to (theoretical) gambling, but also to all sorts of life situations. Hmmm. Maybe I'll write a self-help book about it...

Poundage

It's now been a week and a half since I left my old job, and the results so far have been encouraging. Most noticeable positive trend: I've lost weight. By rough estimate (depending upon my not-too-accurate digital scale): 10-12 pounds since late October (the last time I got an accurate weigh-in). I was still working during some of that time, but I think that a large part of the loss has come since leaving the job on the 15th of this month. The question of sustainability plays upon my mind--I'll have to go back to work eventually, and I'm not sure how I'll react to that--but right now, things are looking up. Or down, depending upon your perspective. Good times.
