Cat of Good Omen

I saw a pussycat yesterday. On my way home from work--long story--I spotted a cat snooping around a grassy bank along the road to my apartment. This is unusual. Alameda, where I grew up, is lousy with cats. You see them on every street. Not so Lafayette, the current home of the Heavily Fortified Bunker™. I almost never see cats around my current neighborhood. So I've taken it into my head that, when I come across a cat in the Reliez Valley area, I consider it a sign of good luck.

Well, shortly after I got home, after seeing the pussycat, the Philadelphia Flyers won game 7 of their playoff series in overtime (sayonara, Washington Capitals). Later Tuesday night, the San Jose Sharks also won their game 7, a convincing beat down of the Calgary Flames. That makes two game 7 wins in the same night, one each for the team of my youth and the local squad.

I say, that pussycat told me true. He was a Cat of Good Omen.

Sweet.

Stunning and Amazing

They held a golf tournament over the weekend, and it was won by a guy named Trevor. Shocking.

A Not So Good Day

Well, my last week's misgivings about having too good a day proved accurate. The work assignment was a disaster. Couldn't seem to do anything right, or what the client wanted, whatever that might have been. Just couldn't figure it out. My absence was requested by the end of the day. So essentially, I was fired. I've never been fired from a job, certainly not in a formal sense from a real job, so it was an unusual experience for me. And I've only done some minor web work since. Bleh.

Oh, yeah, and I'm stalled on the writing. Just enough disruption to the routine to flame that out.

Just staying in bed and sleeping till July seems like a good idea these days.

A Good Day

I'm going to call today a good day. First, I started things off with a ham and cheese omelet. I burned it a little--allowed the pan to get too hot--but there's no such thing as a bad ham and cheese omelet.

Then I did a little writing. Only a page and a half, but I'm just starting a new project, and getting such things off the ground can always be the biggest pain in the ass. Once you get the words on the page, revising is much easier.

Before I left home, I spotted a likely listing on craigslist and sent off a resume. Then sent off another for an ad I saw on Creative Hotlist. Just sending off resumes doesn't mean much in and of itself, but it at least feels like progress.

Then I went for a good walk. Exercise always helps.

In the afternoon, I got a gig via my staffing agency. I'm scheduled to work the next three days at a design agency. And the office is nearby in San Ramon, so it won't be a horrible pain to get there. This is the first job I'll have in a few weeks, and the pay rate is good, so I'm thinking this will be very encouraging.

Then, I got a response to the resume I sent out this morning. The response was a request to fill out an application, but that's better than being completely ignored. I got the form filled out and sent back in no time. Hopefully, this will lead to something. Again, at the very least, it feels like progress.

Then I polished off the day with a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. Mmmmm. Good stuff.

For tonight: a little baseball, a little basketball.

And that's the makings of a good day.
