This yummy recipe came from my boyfriend's mother's friend from the former Czechoslovakia. She lived in Seattle for a long time and was a good quiltist and painter.
Ingredients:
1 stick butter
2/3 + 1/4 c sugar
1 1/2 t vanilla
1 c flour
8oz cream cheese
1 egg
4 c sliced apples
1/2 t cinnamon
1/4 c sliced almonds or walnuts (I don't always use the nuts)
Strawberry or raspberry jam (optional)
Preheat oven to 450 F.
Mix butter, 1/3 c sugar, 1 t vanilla, and flour. Pat into bottom of a spring form pan (or other if needed).
Mix cream cheese, 1/4 c sugar, egg, and 1/2 t vanilla. Spread on top of the 1st layer.
Mix apples, cinnamon, optional nuts, and 1/3 C sugar. Arrange the apples in a pattern on the top.
Bake at 450 F for 10 minutes and then at 400 F for 25 minutes. Test to see if the apples are done well enough,
and bake more if needed. The apples should be still a little firm rather than complete mush.
You can put a light glaze of strawberry or raspberry jam on top.
Enjoy!
