The Brotherhood of Alpha Epsilon Pi

Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi for short) is an international fraternity with over 77,000 members from chapters all over the United States and Canada. The University of California, Berkeley is home to the Chi Alpha (XA) chapter of AEPi, which is one of the largest fraternities on the Berkeley campus, with more than 50 brothers.

The International Fraternity was founded in 1913 at New York University, and its mission and ideals are detailed at aepi.org. Our chapter was founded originally in 1949, and after an extended hiatus it was re-founded in 1985. As a chapter we value the principles of the international fraternity, specifically its Jewish nature, and our activities are designed to be consistent with these principles while providing the sort of opportunities that we believe enrich our collective college experience.

ACTIVITIES

  • Social Events with other Greek-letter organizations as well as the campus community in general.
  • Philanthropy events that allow us to contribute meaningfully to our local community, people in need throughout the United States, and to Jewish causes around the world.
  • Alumni events that allow our alumni to keep in touch with one another while providing our undergraduate brothers will excellent social networking opportunities.
  • Events put on by the brothers for the brotherhood only, such as weekend retreats, various kinds of athletic events, and football barbeques. These events help us maintain cohesive even as we reach unprecedented levels of membership.
  • Extensive involvement with our Jewish community, mostly through Berkeley Hillel.

ACADEMICS

In addition to the organized events mentioned above, we strive to promote academic achievement among our brothers, contributing to our high-ranking house GPA and a climate that reinforces the educational mission of our campus. Several current brothers have perfect 4.0 GPAs, many of our graduating brothers are bound for top professional schools, and our most recent graduating class included the valedictorian of the Astrophysics department.

LEADERSHIP

Training Jewish leaders is a top priority for Alpha Epsilon Pi, and our brothers are preparing themselves for lifetimes of leadership with extensive involvement in campus and community organizations including the Jewish Student Union (all but one of the executive board members are in AEPi), the ASUC Student Government (we have had at least one ASUC senator in our house for each of the last 4 years), and the Order of Omega honor society (the most recent president was in AEPi).
