Cameron and Tracy's Cabin
Tracy and I bought this lot, 38 acres on the Bar-D ranch near Como Colorado, in November of 1998. We had dreams of some day building a cabin on it. In the fall of 2001 I started drawing the plans for the cabin. In November of 2001 I had the well drilled. In April 2002 I had the plans completed and applied for the building permit. I hired Golden Construction Services to come in and excavate and build the concrete foundation. The rest of the design uses structural insulated panels (SIP's) for the structure. Sips are two sheets of OSB sandwiched over Styrofoam. They provide good insulation and once installed provide the sheathing, insulation and structure so labor should be less and insulation value will be much better than with stick frame construction. Tracy and I plan to complete the rest of the construction on our own with some help from family and friends. Let's see how it goes.

In 2005 we spent most of the first half of the year finishing the stairs. Then we finished the floors and all other details required to get the final inspection. |
