What is My Job as Day Camp Den Leader?
The Key Duties of a Den Leader
- Attend the pre-camp meeting to learn his/her duties
- Remain in camp with your den all day long. Den leaders must be sure
that all youth are with their proper ride home before they may leave camp.
- Help the boys at each program station
- Serve in the capacity of parent, mentor, teacher, referee, cheerleader
and several other roles that will make camp a safe, meaningful and enjoyable
experience.
- Observe advancement opportunities and sign off appropriate sections
in the boys' books.
- Encourage boys to "Do Their Best."
Den Leaders are also asked to
. . .
- Follow the camp schedule.
- Smoke only in designated areas.
- Bring no children to camp other than Scouts with their den and those in
junior camp.
- Set the example by taking care of litter/trash.
- Maintain cleanliness of all food and campers.
- Report all hazards and problems to the camp director.
- Report ALL injuries and illnesses to the health officer.
Oversee Actions of all Scouts
- Scouts wear camp shirts and shoes at all times (no sandals please).
- Scouts use the "buddy system" at all times
- There is no chopping of trees, destruction, defacing of woods or
buildings, digging of traps or holes, or rock throwing.
- Scouts know and abide by camp boundaries
- Make sure boys follow the knife policy by not carrying knives with them,
and only using knives in den leader designated knife zones.
- Sign in each boy each day (attendance).
- Let the camp director know if a
boy needs to leave early or arrive late and ensure that the adult bringing
or picking up the boy is aware of the need to sign the boy out at the
office.
Adult Leader Dress Code
- No short-shorts, spaghetti-string tops, swim
suits or other revealing attire
- Please wear closed-toe shoes and socks.
