For our last full day in Morocco, Mustapha drove us to Rabat.  We took the scenic route both to and from, along the coast and through many wealthy cities.  Rabat was very impressive – much nicer than Casablanca, but I think Marrakech was favourite city of all.  I think that Rabat has more things to see, but Marrakech is much more relaxed.  We started with the royal palace area.  I love how everywhere you go, there is always a photo of the king, Muhammad VI, and he always has the same look on his face (and he’s always looking away from the camera!).  Some people were even more diehard fans and had photos of him and his wife with their new child.  I asked Mustapha if everyone loves the king, to which he answered yes.  So, back to Rabat, we walked along the grounds in the royal complex area.  Beautiful there – and very spacious.

Me at the ruins, again.  Check out that stork's nest on top of the old minaret!

We saw an old walled city’s ruins that reminded my mom and I of Pompeii.  A lot of storks had come and built their nests in this area.  It was just beautiful.  After this, we went to see where Hassan II, Muhammad V, and Muhammad V’s wife are buried… extremely beautiful, on the grounds were an old mosque used to stand, and all that’s left of it is the minaret and a few bits of wall.  After this, we went to the Kasbah in Rabat, where my mom and I got our hands decorated with beautiful henna.  I wasn’t planning on getting it done after several people at McGill had warned me (skin reaction reasons), but these girls were so quick with getting the stuff on our hands, and it didn’t hurt too much (it mainly stung when it was drying).  After this, we went back to Casablanca, while we sat with the henna on our hands for about 2.5 hours!

An old old minaret that was left standing at the tombs.

More of me at the royal tombs.

Hassan II is the one in the middle.  Muhammad V and his wife are in the top right and left corners.

Me and a grumpy looking royal tomb guard.  I LOVE THOSE OUTFITS.

For our last night in Morocco, we did the usual – we went for tea first.  While we were there, Mustapha told us that he was going to make a phone call, so we waited for him while my mom and I relaxed.  Little did we know that he was actually buying us gifts!  He came back and gave me a mint teapot with two glasses (because I had the stuff at every opportunity!), and my mom a scarf that he showed her how to tie Sahara-style.  I almost cried because I did not expect him to do this and it was incredibly sweet.
