| About the Artist | |||
| Born
and raised in Taiwan, Connie Nelson came to the United States in
1990. She has painted and drawn since she was five years
old. Always the school
artist when she grew up, she continued to receive extensive training in
drawing,
painting, and composition with nationally noted artists Daniel Greene,
Connie
Lynn Reily, and Tina Tammaro. She has also studied at the
Florence Academy of Fine Art in Florence, Italy. She has a strong
background in the French
Academic tradition, but incorporates elements of other styles, such as
Impressionism,
into her work. Believing that art should communicate with its
viewers
in a language they can understand, she strives to achieve a painterly
realistic
look in her work.
While proficient in pen and ink, watercolor, and pastel, she works in oils more than any other medium. "Painting has included some of my biggest struggles and greatest joys," she says. "Still lifes, landscapes, figures, and portraits in the realistic manner offer me a wonderful variety of subject matter, colors, and emotions. With each painting experience, I feel an increased awareness of my subjects' depth and possibilities. Painting is my passion." The artist is especially intrigued by her human subjects. Connie's committing of a portrait to canvas is preceded by an intense study of the subject's personality and lifestyle. She painstakingly establishes an inventive design and a complete mental image of a portrait prior to beginning each piece. Her portraits reflect the unique personality and the character of each of her subjects. A gifted teacher
of art, as well as a practicioner, Connie has worked to pass on her
passion to a new generation of artists. Some of her students have
now moved on to pursue art careers of their own. Connie Nelson's paintings have won awards in regional and national juried exhibits in the United States, Japan, and Taiwan, and can be seen in private collections in the United States, Germany, and Taiwan. She now maintains a studio from her home. Inquiries regarding commissions are welcome. |
