| Commission Procedure |
- The first step in the process is to
communicate
your expectations. This can be done in person, by phone, or via
e-mail. Once the desired subject, size, medium, background, etc.
have been established then a price can be agreed upon and a contract
signed.
- For prices less than $500, the fee
should be
paid in advance. Otherwise a fifty percent deposit is required to
hold the price at its current level and reserve a slot in the painting
schedule. You will be notified when the payment has been received.
- Ideally, the subject will be
available for sittings in the artist's studio (or a mutually agreeable
alternate location). Paintings can be done from photographs if sittings
are not possible. A high quality photograph with good focus and
appropriate lighting makes it much easier for
the artist to render a good likeness. In the photograph, the subject
should
be at least one and an half inches long. An enlarged color copy of your
photograph
can help compensate for the small size of the subject. The artist will
return
any photographs after the painting is completed.
- The working process typically takes
four to
six weeks. A complicated piece will take longer.
- All pastel and charcoal work will
be done on
acid-free Canson paper and comes with an off-white matboard (two to
three
inches wide border around the edge of the painting). All oil
paintings
will be executed on high quality stretched canvas.
