Burning Safety Tips
-
Never leave a burning unattended!
-
Do not burn candles near any combustible materials.
Always keep candles a safe distance from any flammable materials
- especially overhead and beside the candle.
- Always keep
lighted candles away from children and pets. Please be aware that some birds
and other pets are sensitive to the fragrance oils. If you have birds in your
house, we do not suggest burning our candles in the same room.
- Do not
touch or attempt to move candles while burning. Container
candles and liquid wax can get very HOT. Extinguish flame
and wait until the wax has completely cooled and solidified before moving.
- Always burn
candles on heat-resistant surfaces in the proper
size holders or on non-flammable bases.
- Discontinue
burning of a container candle when 1/2"
of unmelted wax remains to avoid glass breakage or heat damage.
Candles can get hot - therefore do not place directly on any
plastic surface such as your TV.
- Keep
candles free of wick trimmings or other debris to prevent excess
flaming and smoking.
- Always trim wicks
to 1/4" before lighting. If you notice a flame that is too high,
or the wick is smoking,
extinguish, trim wick to 1/4" and relight. Most candles do best
when burned for NOT longer than 4 hours.
- Container
candles - keep the wicks centered and trimmed
to 1/4" while burning to maximize the melt pool and for best
scent throw. The flames should not touch the glass at any
time. Do not use any container that is cracked or chipped.
- It is
normal for some soot buildup to occur on the rim of container
candles. If this occurs, before lighting, wipe soot off
with a clean dry cloth. Do not add water to your
candle. Never extinguish a candle with water as this could
cause splattering of the wax.
- Do not
place a hot, container candle on a cold surface as the
container could crack or
break.
- Candles
should always be burned on a level burning surface to keep the
flame from touching the glass or sidewall and to prevent wax from
spilling out of the container.
- We
recommend the use of a candle snuffer to extinguish our candles
to prevent excessive smoking and possible splattering of the the
wax.
- Burning
for no more than 4 hours at each lighting will provide for the
most efficient and safe use of your candles. Always
follow the specific burning instructions included with each type
of our candle.
- Before
burning, be sure to remove the paper labels from the bottom of
our pillars and votives.
- Burn candles away from drafts. Air vents, open windows,
ceiling fans and doors may all create air movement that will
cause the flame to smoke or uneven burning of the candle.
- As with any
product containing fragrance, an
allergic reaction is always a possibility. If you experience any
breathing or sneezing problems, discontinue use. Provide
adequate ventilation if you are burning multiple candles.
- Avoid
use of an excessive number of candles in a small area. Just like any other flame, candles consume the
oxygen in a room and adequate ventilation must be provided.
Care And Handling Tips
- Keep your candles in a cool, dry environment.
Direct sunlight may cause them to fade.
- Wax can
be removed from linens, upholstery and carpeting by running a
warm iron over a paper towel or brown paper bag. With washable
fabrics, try rinsing with hot water.
- Always
remember melted wax is hot and can cause burns if spilled on
your skin. If you get wax on your skin, immediately cool
with cold water or ice and carefully remove the hardened wax.
Remember -
burning candles safely is your responsibility. Candle Lytes provides
burning instructions with each candle purchased, and we are not
responsible for any misuse of our products.
