Childhood blindness is only one part of the global
vision crisis. If nothing is done, experts say that the
world’s blind population could double from 37 million
to 74 million by 2020.

But Lions will not allow “nothing to be done.”
True to their commitment to be “knights of the
blind,” Lions have launched Campaign SightFirst II
to prevent this tragedy. CSFII has set out to raise
at least US$150 million to continue and expand
the extraordinary work of SightFirst, Lions' worldwide program to combat preventable blindness. Click here learn more here…

Put some excitement into your summer at Panhandle Lake Camp, where having diabetes is the rule and not the exception. Panhandle Lake, close to the town of Shelton, will be your home for the best fun you will have all summer while you live with fellow campers who also have diabetes.

Wake up each morning to a hearty, healthy breakfast and ready for adventure. Schedule your day for boating, swimming, hiking, archery, crafts, and group games. You can sleep under the stars, enjoy a cookout, hear late-night stories, and wake up to see the sunrise. Fun evenings around the campfire, cabin skits, singing, and awards will complete your week.

Your counselors have been carefully selected for their experience of living with diabetes. The volunteer staff of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and dietitians specialize in diabetes care and education and are on duty 24 hours a day. They will lead you in new discoveries and help you grow as you learn how to live a healthy life with diabetes.

Schools across Washington and Northern Idaho count on the Lions Health Screening Unit (LHSU) to screen 30,000 kids each year for vision and hearing problems. Incredibly, about 15% are found to have problems…problems that increase exponentially as they grow older.

Without early detection – especially for the youngest grades – these problems cause classroom difficulties that push kids down. First they get behind their classmates in school and struggle to catch up. Far too often they can't and face economic disadvantage later in life. For the 4,500 kids detected with sight or hearing problems each year, the LHSU is an escape hatch from this trap.

Your gift to the 2007 Year-End Giving Campaign helps open that hatch.
