Field Day Recap - by AF3I
The Cumberland Amateur Radio Club (CARC) was established by a
volunteer group of amateur radio operators to provide and further social,
public, emergency and educational activities in the field of communications.
The club was formed in 1964 and is the oldest amateur radio club in
Cumberland County. It is a general interest club serving Cumberland, and
surrounding south central Pennsylvania counties.
The club first became an ARRL affiliated club in June 1971.
The club call, K3IEC was adopted in 1968.
Our meetings are open to all amateur radio operators and prospective
amateurs. Meetings are held the third (3rd) Wednesday of each month at
various locations near Carlisle and Harrisburg, PA. Meetings start
at 7:30 PM. Please contact any officer for further
information: location of next meeting, a membership
application, or general information about the club.
Our club participates in the annual ARRL Field Day activities at
Shaffer Park in Carlisle, PA
The club consists of 32 active members.
All are amateur radio operators of various license classes.

“How many TOTAL years do our 32 members have in
their HAM radio licenses?” This necessitated a
bit of research such as going to QRZ.com, calling
each member to find out when they received their
first license, or using your personal knowledge of
that person. Guesses were collected and added
to the ones received by e-mail. Guesses ranged
from 550 – 1525 years. The official tally is
829 years, and Garry, K3EYK, came closest with 795
years. Research showed that Royal ,W3ZIF,
has the longest running ticket with 53 years.
Jim, K3MSH, has had his for 47 years and Dave, W3RY,
since 1958, and Dave, W3SOX, since 1959. CARC
certainly has a lot of experience in HAM radio.
