Become an archaeological site steward

Volunteers are needed!

Volunteer archaeological site stewards and monitors are needed in Nevada and California on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Reclamation and the National Park Service.  1,000's of archaeological sites on Federal Public Lands are daily being looted, vandalized, spray-painted with graffiti and destroyed.  It is through the effort of many trained and dedicated volunteer site stewards that many archaeological sites are now protected and preserved for future generations.

In the State of Nevada site stewardship training and management of the volunteer site stewardship program is provided by the State Historic Preservation Office.  Volunteers receive 7 hours of classroom training and 4 hours of field training at their assigned site; the training is provided at no cost to the trainee.  In most cases, the site steward selects their assigned archeological site.  Sites include historical buildings, pre-historic sites, ghost towns, pioneer trails, rock-art sites and sites of special archaeological interest.  Volunteers can also receive training in archaeological site recording and inventory survey or participate in educational programs for school children and the visiting public.

Your help is needed and greatly appreciated.  Volunteer, today!
