Park's conversion tables only cover normal use and spokes squeezing a spoke leaves little room to apply the Park gauge one gauge post is forced over near the nipple one post is on the 1.8mm midspan the other is on the thicker 2.0mm spoke section but this odd situation can be calibrated simply test a spoke both ways at various tensions the midspan reading gives the true 1.8mm tension the nipple-end reading is always higher (of course, this does not apply to a straight spoke) the calibrated results are in the third set of columns below they're lower than the values for straight 1.8mm
