The Bargain - 304 chapters, in progress, NC-17

This one is my own little "Alternate Soap", starring only the GH characters I like, with more focus on the Alcazar clan. There's a cast list on the fiction board, but read it only if you don't mind being spoiled. The excerpt below is the beginning of the story.

Through the one-way mirror, she could see that they were bound and gagged, unconscious. They had been beaten.

He waited impatiently for her answer.

“I don’t understand”.

“It’s not that complicated”, he bit out, “you leave with me, now, or I’ll have them both killed.”

“But why?”

“Does it matter?”

“Of course it matters. Sonny and Jason are no threat to you. So why?”

“You care about them”. His impatience showed now in his voice.

“I love them”, she corrected. “What do you get from this?”

“You”, he told her, “I get you.”    more...

A Christmas CarLo - 10 chapters, complete

A twisted version of a couple of classics, starring Carly and Lorenxo. Excerpt from the middle.
Secondary characters: Luis Alcazar, Luke Spencer, Bobbie Spencer

Here, take this.

The voice was unfriendly, though familiar. She looked up. “Lorenzo?” He was not in the bed, but standing in the corner of the cabin. He looked different somehow. He was dressed in black—no surprise there. His eyes looked a little darker, but the light in the cabin was uncertain, and she could be imagining that. She was pretty sure she wasn’t imagining his pallor, or the luminescent glow of his skin.

Take it.

He was holding out a handkerchief. She reached out bemusedly to take it and brushed his hand. She felt only icy air. She dropped the handkerchief and grabbed for him. He gave her a grim smile, and let her touch his hand. It was so cold, like marble, and she jerked her hand back.

“Lorenzo?”

Guess again.

His voice was different. It held no affection for her. Instead, there was clear animosity. She put it together. “Luis?”

Very good, my dear.

She realized now that he wasn’t making a sound. She was hearing his voice in her mind. It was a little creepy. “You’re dead”, she told him.   more...   top

Clarity - short, complete

A wish for a CarLo Thanksgiving. Excerpt from the beginning.

Racing across the marble foyer, she almost skidded to a halt, but her momentum was such that she slammed full force into his solid body.

“Hello, Carly.” “Uh, hi, Lorenzo.” She peeked around him, trying to see into the dining room.

He moved casually to block her view—and maybe to put some distance between them.

“I went to Sonny’s. Yesterday.”

Impassive, he merely looked at her.

She frowned, and put a hand to the back of her neck, absently rubbing. “You don’t seem surprised.”

“No.”

“I went there to tell him I was ready to come home.” When he said nothing, she added. “To him. And the boys. To rebuild our family.”

She couldn’t be sure, but she thought she saw a chink in his armor.

“How”, he asked, his tone even, “did that go?”   more...   top

Comfort - short, complete

A different version of Michael and Morgan's kidnapping. It begins like this...
Secondary characters: John Durant, Bobbie Spencer, Courtney Matthews Morgan

Letting go of her had been almost impossible. Watching her leave with Morgan and her ex-husband had infuriated him, because there would be no comfort for her there. She was most likely catering to that disgusting, weak, self-indulgent black hole that was Sonny Corinthos right now, subjugating her own misery to deal with his. He hoped Jason Morgan was offering her some support, but he had little hope of that. The man’s feelings for Carly were ambivalent at best, though she seemed to see him through the lens of a former friendship she wished was still intact.

He could feel her grief, even now, all the way across town.

The only way he could help her was to find out everything.

So he set out to do that.   more...    top

Elevator - 3 parts, complete

Remember this? What if the conversation went this way...

The doors began to slide shut and she ran, slipping through sideways at the last minute. She was late picking up the kids. Looking at her watch, she bashed at the buttons on the panel, as though that would make it move more quickly. These had to be the slowest elevators in the world. She huffed out a breath and crossed her arms, tapping her foot.

Slowly, she became aware that she was not alone, though there had been no sound or movement from behind her.

Dammit. It was him. She would know that feeling anywhere, anytime, no matter how many months passed. Well, it would be a short ride, and she could be polite. Besides, there were probably other people in here, too. She squared her small shoulders, pasted a polite smile on her face, and turned around.

He was in the opposite corner, and there was no one else. The small enclosure started to feel even tinier. His posture was completely nonthreatening—his hands were in his pockets and his head was slightly bent. His lips were pressed together firmly and she stared for a moment, overwhelmed by a brilliantly clear memory of where those lips had been, and how they had felt against her own.

As a hot wash of color started to flood her face, his eyes came up to meet hers. “Hello, Carly”, he said, in the voice that still haunted her dreams.    more...   top

Forgotten - 20 parts, in progress, NC-17

Could Carly ever forget Lorenzo? Random excerpt.
Secondary characters: Jax (Jasper) Jax, A.J. Quartermaine, Morgan Corinthos, Rutger Halse, Jason Morgan, Sam McCall, Sonny Corinthos, Michael Corinthos

“You believe I’m drunk?”

She nodded.

He glowered.

“Are you saying you’re not?”

“Not anymore. Your little seduction act sobered me up.”

“Then why are you standing like that?”

“How”, he asked her in injured tones, “am I standing?”

“Very carefully”, she said.

“Lo. There you are”, Jax said from the doorway.

“Is there no f*cking privacy on this ship?” Lorenzo said.

“Nope”, A.J. said from behind Jax. “Whose cabin is this, anyway?”

“Mine”, Carly and Lorenzo both answered.

“That was fast”, A.J. said, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.

“Not”, Lorenzo said in a stentorian tone, “both of ours. Mine. However”, he said, making a broad sweep with one arm that seriously threatened his balance, “Carly may have it.”

“Don’t tip over, Lorenzo”, she said.

“The correct response is thank you, Carly.”

“Thank you, Carly”, she replied.

“Are you drunk again?” A.J. asked, in feigned horror.    more...   top

Friendly Wager - short, complete

Carly runs into Lorenzo at Jake's. Random excerpt.

He could see her face in the mirror, though he made sure she couldn’t see him looking. It was scrunched into a scowl so black he almost laughed.

Not that he had much to laugh about. There was just something about the faces she made.

He thought about approaching her again, and decided against it. His offer of friendship and support had been made. He wasn’t going to push her. Not this time. He opened the newspaper and held it up in front of him so he could let the smile spread across his face.

“Paying for sex now, are we?”    more...   top

Grief - short, complete, prequel to Mistake

Carly tells Lorenzo about Sage's death. Excerpt from the beginning.

Ric had called her. She had been on her way to New York, to track down her father. As soon as she heard the news, she turned around. She had gotten here in under an hour.

The guard nodded at her. He had been told to let her in, always.

She took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

“Yes.” His voice was forceful, blunt, as the door swung open. His face lit. “Carly?”

“Hi, Lorenzo. Can I come in?”

“Of course”, he said. He was trying not to smile, not to hope. She had come here before, of course. The last time was right before she moved back in with Sonny. He had hoped, then. But she had only come to use him.

He stepped aside so she could walk through the door.    more...   top

Halloween - 13 short parts, complete

A seasonal short story, inspired by a Swinburne verse... Excerpt from the beginning.

There was one night, the night of the wandering dead, when anything was possible. When the past could be erased, and the future could be foretold. All she had to do was believe what she had read…

Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhein which marked the end of harvest and the beginning of winter, a time of year associated with death. The pagan Celts believed that on that night, the boundary between the worlds of the living and dead blurred, and the ghosts of the dead returned to the earth. It was a night for preternatural communication with the dead, various forms of divination and prophecy, and sexual rituals…

It wasn’t so hard for her to believe the past could be erased. She didn’t remember the parts that would make her hurt so badly she’d curl up in a ball and wail silently, endlessly. All of that had been filled in for her, in dispassionate tones, by the people at the clinic.

She walked, alone, in the dark. There were no whispery sounds, no shadows, no cold spots—nothing to make her believe this was anything but a small wooded area near a cemetery.

She had long since ceased to fear things like cemeteries. What was the point of being afraid of the dead? It was the living who were dangerous.

He had been dangerous.

She found a stone bench and sat down. It was one that had been there since she could remember. A high-school girl, who had died young of a rare disease. It was the nicest—and saddest—monument in the place.

Except his. She would get up and go there in a minute. A few minutes.

It was almost midnight.    more...   top

Handcuffs - 17 parts, complete, NC-17

Starts when Carly knocks out Lorenzo and handcuffs him in the basement of the lake house. Excerpt from an early chapter.
Secondary characters: Jasper (Jax) Jacks, Courtney Matthews Morgan, Sage Alcazar, Jason Morgan

She took the car and drove to the lake house. She still had the keys, and she knew Lorenzo wasn’t living there.

She was unprepared for the wave of feeling that swept over her as she walked into the house. Even at night, it was a bright, airy place—such a contrast to the penthouse.

She went into the kitchen and flipped on the lights. It didn’t feel alive anymore, as it had when she and Michael and Morgan and Leticia had been here. There were two large bags of chips on the counter, and she absently took one and returned to the living room.

The video she had started watching two nights ago was still in the DVD player. She opened the bag of chips and sat on the couch to see the end.

Carly was watching The Thomas Crown Affair with Pierce Brosnan and Renée Russo. Something about the story really touched her. It was a little painful to watch the steamy sex scene (that part on the stairs wasn’t really a love scene, it was just too sexy, she thought)—but her favorite part was when Thomas whisked Catherine away to the island. Catherine burned the picture she thought was the Monet Thomas had stolen. He told her it was a “nice little Renoir”. As she tried to figure out whether it was a copy, her facial expression was just priceless.

She didn’t admit to herself that the Pierce Brosnan character reminded her of her own foreign, cultured, excessively wealthy, edgy former boyfriend. She sighed as she lay down on the couch.    more...   top

Hostage - short, complete, NC-17

A yacht scene, with a different ending. Excerpt from the beginning.

Carly awoke to the sounds of the sea. Lorenzo Alcazar was sitting in a chair next to the bed she was in. He was looking at her, blue eyes heated.

She felt it again—that shattering chemistry.

“Where are we?” she asked.

“At sea. I wanted you to myself.”

“You really are something.”

“Yes”.

“Tell me, do you do this with all your business deals?”

“I’ve never done it before in my life”. He spoke flatly. She sensed the honesty in his words.       more ...   top

Los and Cons - 11 parts, complete, NC-17

Carly's version of logic, applied to the problem of Lorenzo. Random excerpt.

So her fantasies of their first meeting almost always had him stripped of the mask, as open a book to her as she was sure she was to him. She knew which one she would tell him now.

“You know I was going to be a Physical Therapist, when I first came to town.”

“Mmm.” He crossed his arms.

She could read nothing in his face. “It’s my first day on the job. I’m pretty nervous about it, since I have a lot to prove to Bobbie, and Tony—after trying so hard to ruin their lives.”

He rubbed at his chin with one big hand, and she watched the ring on his middle finger as it caught the light. He never interrupted, and she always had to get used to that again, to not inserting pauses into everything she said, breaks where she was expecting insults and derision. The rhythm of a conversation with him was always slightly off at the outset, until she remembered she was talking with Lorenzo and changed her pacing accordingly.

“Anyway. I only have a couple of appointments, and there are a couple of hours till they arrive. So I’m looking through the computer system, trying to get more familiar with it—I want to look around in there later—and an emergency comes in.”

“There are Physical Therapy emergencies?” He sounded like he was enjoying this, especially the part about her nosing through the hospital records.

“Oh, yeah. Sports injuries, you know.” She took a long, slow sip of wine, knowing he was measuring the amount of gloss still remaining on her lips. “You come in, on a stretcher. You’re not saying anything but you’re curled up a little, on your side. You look like you want to scream.”

He looked like he knew what she was going to say. He still waited patiently.

“It’s a groin pull”, she said. “You were playing soccer. You’re wearing a soccer uniform. I love those. Soccer definitely has the best outfits.” She let a smile curve her lips.    more...   top

new excerpt Lost and Found - new, in progress

Carly's back--and she's taking no prisoners. Excerpt from the beginning (see more on the home page).
Secondary characters: Jaxper (Jax) Jacks, Robert Scorpio, Jason Morgan, Skye Chandler, Anna Devane, Sonny Corinthos

“Did you really think I didn’t know?” She was sure her tone was even and without inflection. Her purse slid down her arm, however, slightly marring the picture of coolness she aimed to present.

His reply was equally bland. “I can’t say I gave it much thought.”

“I see. Yet you felt the need to tell me just now.”

He put his hands in his pockets and rocked back on his heels, putting more distance between them. “I was making conversation, Carly.”

“Right. I get it.” She shifted her purse back onto her shoulder and faced him squarely. “I’m with Jax now.”

He blinked. “Ah.” After a slight pause, he added, “Congratulations.” He made it a question.

“You sound so sincere.”

He frowned. “Have I done something wrong, Carly?”

“Today? How would I know?” She tried to get her annoyance under control. After all, she had divorced him, hadn’t she? She hadn’t even seen him since before leaving Rose Lawn. He had asked her to give him a chance then—but they had barely spoken since. “Are you going to marry her?” she blurted. It was not at all what she had planned to say. His calm announcement that Skye was pregnant with his child had thrown her—even though she wasn’t lying about already knowing.

His lips smoothed into a straight line, once again erasing any hint of his thoughts. “Can I buy you a cup of coffee? Or would you prefer to continue this conversation standing outside?”    more...   top

Mistake - short, complete, sequel to Grief, NC-17

Carly and Lorenzo discover the defnition of "mistake". Random excerpt

“You can’t help me, Carly.”

They both knew he wasn’t talking about cleaning his apartment.

“I—I need to, Lorenzo.”

“Why?”

“Because I hurt you. And I am sorry.”

It wasn’t the answer he wanted. But it made it easier to refuse her offer of comfort. “I allowed it, Carly. You did nothing wrong.”

“How can you say that? I took everything you gave me, and I gave nothing back.”

He smiled, and though it was not a happy smile, it was rich with memory. “You gave something back”, he said softly. “You gave me my life back. And now I have to live it.”   more...   top

Mistletoe - short, complete, NC-17

The "vampire plant" keeps turning up in the most unexpected places... Excerpt from the beginning.

Mistletoe.

She looked at it, wondering why something so innocuous-looking could bring forth this wave of misery and longing. Michael had brought it, along with the wreath for the front door and the garlands for the mantel. He and Jason were out now, looking for the perfect tree.

She wasn’t in the mood. No holiday spirit moved her, though she had dragged out all the boxes of decorations and was know kneeling on the floor going through them.

Greenery. It was just something to clean up later.

Conflicted, she lifted the almost perfectly symmetrical ball and held it up, surveying it from all angles. When the memories began to intrude on her hard-won peace, she uncurled her fingers and let it drop. Rising from her knees, she grabbed it, and went and opened the front door to rush outside into the freezing air.

Numbness was better. She tossed the mistletoe in a snow bank.   more...   top

Relentless - 28 parts, complete, NC-17

A twisted version of General Hospital reality, where not much is what it seemed to be. Excerpt is from about the middle of the story, which actually begins when Carly finds Sonny wounded and hiding in a monastery...and Lorenzo finds Carly.
Secondary characters: Ric Lansing, Alexis Davis Lansing, Michael Corinthos, Morgan Corinthos, Bobbie Spencer

She looked around the room, at everyone gathered. Few of them had the nerve to meet her eyes.

“I’m not happy about this, as I’m sure you know”, she said icily. “Lorenzo Alcazar has uncovered far too much about this organization. We need some damage control. Any suggestions?”

There was a long silence. Finally Luke Spencer broke it. “We could make the activities at the Haunted Star a little more obvious. Keep his focus there.” He left unspoken the fact that this would keep Alcazar away from their main businesses.

“Or we could arrest him”, Ric offered.

“On what charges? Haven’t his domestic operations been legitimate for some time now?”

“Debatable. In any case, the charges don’t have to be valid.”

“That only buys us time. I want this handled permanently. I don’t want him muscling in any further than he already has. Think about it. And come up with a solution. I expect to have it by tomorrow.”

She walked around the table, forcing them to twist in their seats to follow her with their eyes.

“You all want to be very careful. Faith Roscoe disappeared for a reason. The same could happen to any one of you.”

The tension in the room escalated. She never made idle threats.

After the door closed behind her, they got to work.    more...   top

Retribution - 2 parts, underway

A twist on Luis and Lorenzo's roles. Excerpt from almost the beginning.

He strode down the dock, intent on only one thing. Retribution.

He would have it. He needed it. His brother was gone, but he would be avenged.

The cold wind whipped his long, dark hair and lashed his tanned face. His icy blue eyes were proof against the strong current of air. He had spent the past few months at sea, piecing together the very sketchy information and formulating a very detailed plan.

His brother, brought down by his love for a woman. He had always known Luis was volatile, even reckless—but he had also always been there to save him from the consequences of his actions. The one time he had not—his brother had paid too great a price. His life.

He pushed a hand through his disordered hair and narrowed his eyes. Though twins, they weren’t close, he and Luis. Viciously, he corrected himself. They had not been close. He supposed both of them had believed, when they gave the matter any thought, that there would be time for that. It was no longer possible, and that knowledge rubbed him raw in places he refused to acknowledge.    more ...   top

Satisfaction - 7 parts, complete

When getting what he wanted provides no satisfaction, Lorenzo is at a loss. Excerpt from an early chapter.

“Who are you?”

“It’s me, Carly. Jax.”

“Oh. Jax. What are you doing here?” Her voice was singsong and she tilted her head, regarding him from the odd angle.

“Courtney sent me.”

“Courtney? Who’s that? Wait, I know. No. She wouldn’t send you. She hates me. You hate me.” She looked around. “Do you have a gun?”

“Not with me.”

“Ha. You don’t have a gun at all, do you? Look at you. You’re too nice to have a gun. I need a gun.”

“Why?”

She laughed, and it chilled him. He almost stepped back, and then he remembered what he owed Sonny Corinthos. Carly had been his friend, once. “Carly?”

She wasn’t paying attention to him anymore, but gazing vacantly toward the door.

He looked over his shoulder, but no one was there. “Would you like to get out of here?”

She didn’t answer.

He couldn’t take the chance of her raising the alarm, though, so he removed the hypodermic from his suit jacket and injected her before she could react. As soon as the place “shut down” for the night, they’d be gone. He hoped Lorenzo was still waiting.   more...   top

Walk Through My Door - 24 chapters, complete, NC-17

Begins after the "catastophic event" Port Charles Hotel fire. Flashes back through some CarLo history... Random excerpt.
Secondary characters: Sage Alcazar, Alexis Davis, Jasper Jacks, Luke Spencer, Bobbie Spencer, Elizabeth Webber, Lucky Spencer, others

The “Spencer family” barbecue wasn’t really just Spencers, Carly thought, smiling as she and Sage and Bobbie made the final preparations.

Sage had invited Dillon, Georgie, Maxie, and a couple of other boys from school.

Lucky had asked if Nikolas and Emily could join them. “They need to be around normal people”, he had explained. Luke, who had been with them that day, remarked that the Spencers did not like to be classified as normal. Sounded boring, he argued. Lucky reminded him that Nik and Em’s families were the Cassadines and the Quartermaines. Luke laughed. “Got me there”, he said, “and speaking of abnormal families—why don’t I bring Skye?”

Bobbie was dating a new cardiac surgeon at GH, but Carly hadn’t met him yet. She had tried to get Bobbie to invite him, but wasn’t sure she had—Bobbie was still being mysterious about it.

She had—half jokingly—invited Jax, and he had surprised her by accepting immediately. Still somewhat intimidated by Alexis, Carly had waited to call her until she was sure she had gone home for the day, and then left a message. Alexis had accepted, too.

This was the first party she had attended since her life had taken its new course. None of the old main characters in her life—Sonny, Jason, Courtney—would be here.

She refused to consider that Lorenzo had also been a main character in her life. And she was positive Luis would not return from his trip in time to be there. That was a relief. It would be tough to maintain the charade in such a crowd, and Sage could also mess up easily.

Luke and Skye arrived together. Carly, noticing their closeness as they both hugged her, hoped there was something going on there. Luke had been solitary for so long, and it was making him more bitter than he deserved. She wanted some happiness for him.

“Where’s Lorrrrenzo”? Luke asked, in a comic imitation of the Alcazars’ pronunciation.    more...   top

Watching and Waiting - 2 parts, complete, NC-17

Begins after Lorenzo kisses Carly at Metro Court, saying he has "proof". Random excerpt.

She really never ate much of anything. He could have managed without the kitchen monitor. She didn’t sit still, either. The video was a little jumpier than he liked. It almost made him seasick when he watched her for long periods. Seasick. He smiled a little at the idea.

He put in the day’s tape and fast forwarded until he found something interesting.

John Durant was with her, making another pitch for reconciliation. She was holding herself stiffly aloof, and it looked like she was merely waiting for him to finish speaking rather than listening. After a few minutes, he left, promising to try again.

She threw something at the door and flopped down on the couch briefly. Then she jumped up, grabbed her coat, and left.

Further along, the tape got really interesting.    more...   top

Original Fiction

new chapters posted Anonymous - 5 parts, underway, NC-17

Bullet to the brain sex in an anonymous setting. What would it be like to have anything she wanted?

She stared at the monitor. It was the last step of the selection process. She had already read and reread the information on each man. She knew which one she’d choose, based on words alone. She had no expectation that once she had actually seen them, her choice would be the same. And she was planning to choose based on pure physical appeal. No logic for her tonight.

She switched over to the video clip.

She felt a little foolish watching as the men, wearing hoods to conceal their faces, filed into the room.

Hoods were all they were wearing.

Anonymity. It was the reason she was here. Well, that and the fact that she was so—restless. She had been having some pretty vivid fantasies, and they weren’t enough. Here, women could fulfill whatever desire they chose. It was expensive, but discreet. Anna had assured her she wouldn’t regret it.

She had enough regrets.

When she hesitated to make her choice, the woman with her reminded her, “You may choose more than one. As many as you like.”

She shivered a little at the thought. Two of them? Or more? It was tempting. Maybe next time.

“Him” she said softly, pointing to the second man who had entered the room. His body was well-muscled without being overdeveloped, and she like the way he had moved, and the way he stood. He looked comfortable with himself, confident. She smiled inwardly. Sure. She could tell all that by looking at him naked.     more...   top
