Back Attack

Players:          5 or more; Level 1 and up

Where:            Outdoors in a smooth parking lot or tennis court in warm weather

Equipment:     Squirt guns and water for each player; a paint-with-water target for each player; clothespins, at least 3 for each player. (Substitute paper napkins for targets if necessary.)

Object:

Riders use squirt guns to paint a page attached to the backs of other players while trying to keep others from painting his or her own picture.

Preparation:

Give each rider a full, small squirt gun and pin a paint-with-water page to his or her back. Players should wear old clothes since the paint may end up on them. The paint-with-water pages run, leaving stains on shirts, but the paint comes off easily when washed.

Play:

Stagger players around the riding area. At a signal, all players begin riding and try to squirt water onto the targets on the backs of other players while at the same time trying to avoid water being sprayed on their own target.

Play continues for about two minutes or until everyone is out of water.

The rider with the least amount of water on his or her target wins.

Level Adjustments:

Levels 1, 2  Ride

Levels 3, 4  Ride with one hand behind back

Levels 5, 6  Ride with both hands on water gun

Levels 7, 8  Ride one-footed

Levels 9, 10  Ride one-footed, weaker foot, both hands on water gun

Comments:

This game was played at Unicon 11 after the races one day with both adults and kids.  It was a riot.

It may be best to set up rounds by ability levels, so the beginners have less chance of getting hurt.  Riders do tend to run into each other during the game. We did not do level adjustments. About 10 riders played at once in each round.

Riders got to see their painted pictures when each round was over, and everyone who played got Tootsie Roll prizes.
