Follow the Leader

Players:          5 or more; all riders

Where:            Indoors in a gym or outdoors

Equipment:     None (music is optional)

Object:

Players ride in a line, one behind another, trying to follow the actions of the leader.

Play:

Choose one rider to be the Leader. All others form a line and ride around the playing area following the actions of the Leader.

The Leader should vary his or her arm movements often while zigzagging around the riding area.

Followers should mimic the arm movements and riding style of the Leader.

If riders unintentionally dismount, they go to the end of the line.

If the Leader does a skill that a Follower can’t do, such as one-foot, the Follower just continues to ride forward.

Mounts can also be included. Leaders may intentionally dismount (unicycle in front) and do a mount that’s followed by the other riders.

If the Leader accidentally dismounts, the second person in line becomes the new Leader.

If using music, have the second person in line become the new Leader when a song ends. Otherwise, chose a new Leader after a certain time limit.

This game can be used as a warm up, with everyone participating, or it can be used to eliminate riders. For example, once a rider cannot follow a skill performed by the Leader, or dismounts unintentionally, that rider is eliminated for the rest of the round.

Level Adjustments:

Adjust the game according to the skill levels of the riders. For example, have all Level 5 riders follow a Level 5 Leader. When a rider dismounts, he or she is out for the rest of that round.  When only one rider is left following the Leader, that rider becomes the new Leader.
