Pianist Robin Spielberg [link to my bn.com interview with Robin] came to play a concert at The Living Room and brought along husband Larry Kosson and daughter Valerie, who almost didn't make it into the world. She was born weighing 17 oz. and spent four month in neo-natal ICU, enduring a few operations. Robin wrote Beautiful Dreamer, an album of lullabies, in honor of the little survivor. How is Valerie doing at 22 months? Just look! We could hardly keep up with her. Robin said she only started walking 3 weeks before, and now Robin (who is a bundle of energy herself) could hardly keep up.![]()

Steven Halpern

December, 2000, I had dinner with Steven Halpern while I visited Suzanne Ciani (see below) in Marin County, CA. Steven was basking in the recent success of his albums Deja-Blues and Chants to Awaken the Buddhist Heart. Read my barnes & noble.com interview with him to find out why he's all smiles. Reviews will link from there.Suzanne Ciani

You don't feel like being photographed "after a trip to the dentist." Below, Suzanne's shot of me by the channel to the Bolinas Lagoon. Like the hat? We were out hunting alligators.![]()
Iasos![]()
Susanne and I visited Iasos, another New Age music pioneer. He was nearing completion of his new album and treated us to a tour of his unique studio (decked out with Christmas lights and all manner of antique and new electronic instruments) AND outfitted us in headphones to sample of several of his new pieces. He delighted us with stories about the inspiration for each track, from UFOs to an angel committee to guide him. WOW! The music was spiritually mindbending, and we left Iasos's studio all grins. His album should be out Spring of 2001. I clicked this snapshot at the entrance to his house.
Tony Lee, Ringmaster of "Night of 1000 Stars"

The Orcas Center is raising funds for much-needed expansion. How to raise funds? "Let's put on a show!" To celebrate the center's 15 year history, cast members sang songs and acted in brief scenes from past productions. Tony Lee, a talented actor (played Tevya in Fiddler on the Roof), did a grand job of MCing the affair and getting everything and everyone organized. (To be honest, it was like herding cats!). The revue was a smash. Caught this shot at the last (ha! ONLY) dress rehearsal after I was chastised to not take pictures on the stage. I didn't listen. Had this shot enlarged and framed for Tony as a thank you. And he liked it, he really liked it. What did I do? Turn pages for Mary Meyer, what else? How do I get into these things??
