Lesson Times are kept on time and without interruption as much as possible. This allows each student their full time and my complete attention. Please arrive or drop-off/pick-up your student promptly, unless other arrangements have been made. Parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area.

The Scheduled Weekly Lesson Time is considered a firm commitment by both the student and teacher.  If the student cancels a lesson there will not be a refund given. A make-up lesson may be possible with adequate notice. Emergencies will be given special consideration. The make-up lesson must occur before the next regularly scheduled lesson. If a time cannot be arranged, the student is still responsible for payment of the missed lesson. A two week notice is required when terminating lessons. Students who terminate lessons without a two week notice will not be eligible for refund of the remaining lessons. Students who come late to a lesson will not have additional time added to the lesson to accommodate their tardiness. If the teacher cancels a lesson (i.e., inclement weather or personal situations), the fee will be credited to the next month.

Missed Lessons: Up to two weeks a year (with prior notice by the 1st of the month) will be allowed for each student in a calendar year in addition to regular Major Holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day). Please allow for up to two planned personal vacation weeks for myself (one family and one professional).  For Students: All other Planned Missed Lessons will be charged at 50% of lesson fee. Unplanned Cancellations will be charged at 100% of lesson fee. If a new student starts lessons other than the first of the year, the missed lesson allowance will be prorated.

Can a student HOLD a specific Lesson Time During an Extended Sabbatical? Yes, there are four options. 1) If you are changing your regular time to a new summer time and you want to HOLD your old time for my Fall Schedule. A $25.00 non-refundable fee will reserve your time. 2) If you are taking a summer sabbatical and you want to HOLD a specific lesson time for my Fall Schedule. A $75.00 non-refundable fee will hold that time for you. 3) For other scenarios, a circumstantial non- refundable fee may be pre-arranged for your situation. 4) Please refer to the next section, “When my studio schedule is full…”, if a specific lesson time is not reserved.

When My Studio Schedule is Full, prospective students may choose to be placed on my waiting list. This includes student’s sabbatical during the summer months. Students on the waiting list will not be given priority over new students. New students are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis for any available openings. I teach all ages and playing abilities, including very beginner through advanced adult.

Payment For Lessons is due monthly, the first week of the month. Check your monthly "Flute Notes Newsletter" for your bill amounts. If the student is not attending the first lesson of the month, please mail the payment during the first week. Monthly payments not made by the first week of the month will be assessed a $5.00 late payment fee.

Minimum Practice Standards should be encouraged to meet or exceed:

a) Elementary Students: 30 minutes daily, 6 days a week.

b) Middle School Students: 45 minutes daily, 6 days a week.

c) Senior High School & Adult Students: 60 minutes daily, 6 days a week.

Students are expected to practice and be prepared for lessons.  Parents are welcome to contact me any time to discuss the student’s progress. Parents, please review the student lesson journal for my weekly comments and review the "Flute Notes Newsletter" monthly.

Required Music should be purchased promptly. For your convenience, I keep an extensive amount of music & accessories "In Stock." If I do not have it in stock, I can order most music for delivery within a week. Please promptly pay your music & accessory bills within one week of receipt.

Please Be Courteous & Considerate during lesson times. Enter/Exit quietly and on time for your scheduled lesson. Keep the front doors closed year round. Loud conversations tend to distract students so please keep your voices soft. Please take cell phone calls outside as well.

All distractions need to be kept at a minimum. Some students may be uncomfortable playing in front of others. Lesson time requires a lot of concentration & focus. I try very hard to provide an optimum environment for learning.

For Home Practice, students need good lighting and an adjustable music stand. Other considerations should be a mirror; a CD player, for listening and performing with CD literature; a tape recorder, for recording lessons and/or practice; a metronome, a timer, a Weekly Practice Organizer and a chromatic tuner are also valuable and necessary tools for the intermediate through advanced students.

When My Studio Schedule is Full, prospective students may choose to be placed on my waiting list. This includes student’s sabbatical during the summer months. Current students on the waiting list will not be given priority over new students. New students are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis for any available openings. I teach all ages and playing abilities, including very beginner through advanced adult.

I Encourage Year-Round Learning.  The importance of continuous learning cannot be emphasized enough. Summer lessons are essential for learning retention, musical development, an opportunity to learn new music and techniques. Summertime is a great time to get a head start on the competition and for back to school preparation for the fall.

Required For Every Lesson:

A. Flute in good repair. (Your instruments should be serviced by your favorite flute repair technician at least once a year! I can give you referrals.)

B. Assigned Music: Method books, Solo Books, Duet Books, etc.

C. Lesson Assignment Journal.

D. Pencil.

If a student’s instrument is in the repair shop, we will still have a lesson. If a student has not practiced and prepared as usual, we will still have a lesson. Many other aspects of flute playing can be studied and developed during a lesson.
