I first got into photography during high school in the mid 70s when I received a Pentax KM as a birthday gift. I was thoroughly hooked and soon had a darkroom in the closet under the stairs. After entering college, I helped establish the BA of Photography program at Carson-Newman College in eastern TN. I got my first professional photography job at Graham's Studio in Knoxville, TN where I specialized in wedding photography. I also shot lots and lots of school photography assignments (not exactly challenging but a lot of work). During the recession of the early 80s I was laid off by Graham's and in desperate need of an income I enlisted in the US Air Force. My education was also put on hold and I had to delay finishing college but finally graduated with a B.A. in Photography in 1986. I spent 20+ years as a computer specialist and retired from the Air Force in 2002 as a Master Sgt. I am now a government contractor working in the Washington, DC area.
I shot exclusively with Pentax 35mm SLR cameras until I got my first digital P&S in the mid 90s. I used a series of Fujifilm P&S's until I returned to the world of Pentax SLRs when I got a K110D for Christmas in 2006. I'm enjoying relearning how much fun a serious camera can be. After the K110D I purchased a K10D and finally a K20D. I also began building my lens stable.
Over the years I primarily shot landscapes as well as adventure sports such as hiking, backpacking and climbing. Since switching to a DSLR I have discovered a passion for event coverage, motorsports and velosports photography as well as fashion and figure photography.
