''I really didn't say everything I said.'' - Yogi Berra

Here's an excellent op-ed piece that appeared recently in the Boston Globe. One of those small government vs. big government discussions that makes one pause. While its implementation would never garner serious thought by Massachusetts' professional politicos, (even if a majority voted in favor of its adoption,) halving of the state budget, and elimination of the state income tax would be a welcome revolution.

Haven't posted in quite a while, so just adding random thoughts here now:

- This D.C. area sniper is pretty darn good. How is it that he/she has been able to get off all these rounds in the middle of populated, heavily frequented areas, create havoc, and get away despite roadblocks, and an ever increasing police and citizen alert? No doubt, this person is evil personified, but it's too bad that the sniper is not on our team. Give him/her a ticket to Bagdad and have a shot at changing the regime.

- Forsyte saga on PBS is pretty good. Soames Forsyte is brilliantly cast. What a sour puss of a face!

- A WORLD Series? Hardly. None of the many hardball fans I know here on the East Coast is following it. Too late at night. Games far too long. The brains of baseball had better fix this. It's where the NHL used to be.

- Recently at a New England Revolution game at the new Gillette stadium.
i) Soccer games are fun to attend. Much better than the made-for-TV-timeouts NFL.
ii) Kudos to Robert Kraft for building a beautiful new facility without reaching into the taxpayers' pockets.
I'm only too happy to pay a bit extra for my drink and food, and endure the endless advertising blitzkreig at the event. I only ask him to turn down the ersatz "sound" experience. It doesn't add excitement. It annoys.

- Want to stay warm this winter? Buy a utility stock. They've been mangled with Enron fiasco troubles, warm weather winters and now a supply shortage. Pay close attention to gas producers and distributors. They'll snap back nicely and pay you to hold them until they do. IDU buys you a basket of the Dow Jones 15 Industrial Utilities. Let's revisit this in May.
