2007/05/31 ![]() Here's an early oil on canvas painting by Emile A. Gruppe. More typical Gruppe paintings are scenes of Gloucester fishing boats at dock, after moving to Cape Ann, Massachusetts, he established himself as one of the preeminent artists of the Cape Ann School. Prior to this period, and after having toured Europe, he and his father Charles Gruppe, also an accomplished American landscapist, studied and worked in Woodstock, NY. This rich painting with rich brush strokes is a rare glimpse into his early Impressionist days in the Catskill Mountains. posted by Stu Cartwright | 1:43:00 PM
