Sage at the pound.
March 2003

Hello, my name is Sage and I have quite a story to tell. I am a Dachshund/Beagle mix about 3 years old and now weigh 27 pounds. For a long time I ran loose on a farm. The people did not want me there and would do mean things to me like chase me and fuss at me. The Amelia Pound tried for over 1 1/2 years to catch me, but they couldn't. Then one day they found my 2 one week old puppies and put them in a trap. I did not know what a trap was and when I went to my puppies I got caught. I was so scared of people and did not know what was going to happen to me. Caroline and Vicki were nice to me at the pound. A few weeks later a man came to the  pound. He played with my two puppies. I was as far back in the cage as I could get, right up against the back wall. The man reached in and pet me on the head. I was so scared, but it felt nice so I wagged my tail a little. Then I heard the lady at the  pound say it was a shame, but because my fear of people was so strong I was un-adoptable. I knew what that meant! The man reached back in the cage again, grabbed my

Clyde and Sage
front leg, and pulled me to the front. I would never try to hurt anyone and when he let go I quickly went to the back again. The man said he would be back in two weeks to get me when my puppies were weaned. That was on March 27, 2003 and he did come back two weeks later.

One of my puppies, Bonnie had been adopted when he came back so he took Clyde and I home with him. About a month later he found a great home for Clyde with a very loving family. He will be fine now and is well taken care of.

After Clyde left I moved into the house. I was still horrified of people and often hid under the bed. I feel safer there. Things are much better now. I am not afraid of my new Papa most of the time although I still hide when other people come in except for his father. He is nice to me too. Instead of being outside in the cold without anyone to care for me and nothing to eat, I now stay in the
house where it is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. I have three friends to play with too, Casey, Jake, and Duke, and no one does bad things to me. I am happy now, have a nice palace to live with a big fenced yard, and plenty of love, food, and treats. I thought being caught by the pound was the worst thing that could happen to me, but it turned out to be the best thing. For the first time life is wonderful!

Please remember there are many other cats and dogs that need a loving family and a place to live.
