Sonja

Do you like strawberries? I don't, but I sure am glad that they have a festival for them. My name is Sonja and I would like to tell you my story. When I was a little kitten I stayed with a lady named Jeanette who safehoused me for the Hanover Humane Society. Then when I was 10 weeks old, on a rainy Saturday morning in June of 1992 she took me to the Ashland Strawberry Festival. Many people looked at me and the other cats and dogs that were there. Some of us found homes that day but many of us didn't. I was lucky. Some people came and looked at me and said how pretty I was. They held me and played with me. I could tell they liked me a lot.

After a little while they put me back in the cage. Jeanette helped the lady do some kind of paperwork. I do not understand what that was for but when they finished the lady took me out of the cage and took me home with her. They had another cat named Gebel. He was three years old and instantly became my best friend. They had a dog there named Penny also. She was nice too. I guess it is bad for a cat to admit about a dog but often Penny and I would sleep together. All three of us enjoyed playing together. It was fun and we were friends for many years.

I am sorry to say I lost friend Penny last year and Gebel about two months ago. I miss them both very much. Now I have a new friend named Lily. Mama and Papa rescued her from the Hanover Pound in August of 2002. Lily likes to chase me around the house but she does not try to hurt me.

As I said earlier, I was lucky. I have had a wonderful home for almost 12 years. The Hanover Humane Society has many more cats and kittens that need loving homes. Please stop by PETsMART, across from Virginia Center Commons on any Saturday and see my friend Jeanette. She would be happy to help you find a new friend and companion.

Sincerely,
