The Position of Fleet Captain

Function:

The Captain, as senior fleet officer, is responsible to define and set realistic objectives for the fleet that reflect the desires of the members and which support the objectives of the C-22 National Sailing Association; presides at fleet meetings and provides planning guidance to other fleet officers, committees, or individuals; supervises implementation of the annual program to maximize the benefits and satisfaction to members in terms of sailing enjoyment, safety, improved sailing skills and knowledge; promote the popularity of the C-22 as a one-design family boat; develop appropriate recognition of achievements and contributions made by members in fleet activities; actively encourage membership by C-22 owners in the Fleet and the C-22 National Sailing Association.

Duties:

Is Commander of the Fleet and presides at Fleet activities.

Assures that Bylaws of the Fleet are not in conflict with the Constitution or Bylaws of the National Sailing Association and that the requirements of each document pertaining to the Fleet are accomplished.

Establishes and maintains communications with National and Regional officers, marinas and dealers who provide sales and services to Catalina owners in the local area, and the Editor of the MainBrace magazine, to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of benefits accruing to Fleet members.

Establishes and articulates to the members annual goals for the Fleet.

Provides guidance to Fleet officers and assures implementation of planned activities in sufficient time to meet scheduled activity dates.

Assures members understand the functions and positions established within the Fleet and incorporates the skills and attributes of each member into Fleet activities.

Assures that the exchange of information and communications among Fleet members is active, accurate and timely.

Arbitrates disagreements concerning the course of action to be followed on Fleet matters.

Facilitates the smooth transition of duties and functions to subsequent officers of the Fleet.

Suggested Qualifications:

Catalina 22 owner or co-owner. Member of the Catalina 22 National Sailing Association. Exhibits leadership and managerial skills in dealing with people.
