The Cathedral Choir

The Choir at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Denver was founded by one of the first Cathedral rectors, the Rt. Rev. Monsignor Joseph J. Bosetti, as a choir of boys and men. A native Italian, Msgr. Bosetti's quest was to bring quality music to the city of Denver, and as the first Director of Music at the Cathedral he also instituted concerts that were free for all and open to the public.

Today the Cathedral Choir counts ca. 35 regular members from across the Front Range area. The choir is open to everyone with the necessary musical qualifications, professional musicians and amateurs alike. The repertoire of the choir reaches from Gregorian Chant to the 20th century, including contemporary works that were especially written for the group. A special emphasis is given to the traditional Catholic literature, which the Second Vatican Council has praised as a "treasure of inestimate value."

In addition to regular liturgical duties on Sundays, Holy Days, and special occasions, the Cathedral Choir also performs in concerts, e.g. the Colorado premier of Anton Bruckner's "Great Mass" in F minor in November 2001. The choir has been invited to visit and perform in Salzburg, Austria, as well as in Seoul, South Korea.
