Irish Eyes in the Emerald City

How a California girl found Seattle...

... about me

My name is Cathy. I lived in northern California for most of my life but decided in 2004 that California was no longer where I wanted to live. I jumped off with both feet and moved to Idaho Falls to be near Scott.

After a few months there I realized Idaho wasn't the place for me! No job, no friends, no culture. I was working a temporary assignment in a construction trailer. Ya know, they're not exaggerating when they say construction workers swear! Let's see ~ 63 degrees in the trailer with snow on the ground, using a portable toilet with a leaky roof, and no hot water. Could it get any worse? I was afraid it could, so I got out!

Moving back to California was out of the question. Once you leave California you can't afford to go back, so Seattle beckoned. Now I'm living in a lovely condo I bought in April. I really like living in the city. I drive to work on a sunny morning, with Mt. Rainier in the distance, sea planes taking off and landing on Lake Washington or Lake Union, and think to myself how lucky I am to be here!

... my family

I have two sons of whom I'm terribly proud. Michael lives here in Seattle. Scott moved back to California and lives with his fiancee, Erin. They are getting married June 2, 2007.

My sister lives in Dallas but will probably move here eventually. Her son works for the State Department and currently lives in Berlin, Germany, with his wife.

... my work

I work at Boeing as part of the team developing the new 787 Dreamliner.

... my interests

I love to travel, so living in Seattle, with its international airport, is very convenient for me. I love music and love to sing. I've traveled to Japan, Russia, Belarus and Ireland. We just happened to visit Ireland during the World Cup of 2002. It was so much fun!

I just took my first cruise in December 2005 and it was fabulous. We traveled with 540 other Red Hatters from the North Texas area and had a wonderful time.

I am also Queen of a local Red Hat Society chapter, the Royal Red Hatters, here in Seattle.

Amateur photography is also a hobby, and I love to sing.
