Birding

One of my fondest memories of childhood is the first bluebird I ever saw. And I mean bluebird, not blue jay. When I was very small, I remember saying, "Look, mommy, a bluebird!" And she would look and say, "No, that's a blue jay. There aren't any bluebirds here any more. They all went away." Well, when I was a teenager, the National Audubon Society started to promote the building of bluebird houses, and it worked. When I was about 16, I saw my first bluebird right in that same yard I'd been looking at blue jays in for years. I had no idea what it was! But trust my mom! She told me. I almost cried, I was so happy.

I still get that incredibly happy feeling when I identify a new bird. Just a week or so ago I saw my first Barred Owl. It was incredible! I plan to write up my life list and put it here on my website. Also, I'll be posting links and photos.
