MINUTES OF CAUDLE FAMILY MEETING

The Caudle Family met near Mt. Vernon, Franklin County, Texas on October 15, 2005. The family members began gathering about 9 A.M. at the Providence Cemetery and Providence Primitive Baptist Church. The church was opened by Deacon Pat Kirbo and we had the privilege of entering the church and seeing where our forefathers worshiped. James, Mary and William Caudle were charter members of this church, organized on May 28, 1842.

We then crossed the road to the cemetery where the Military Marker of 1^st Lt. Mark Caudle of the Mt. Vernon Greys was dedicated by The Gentlemen of Stonewall Jackson Camp #901 and J.M.”Matt” Barton Camp #441 Sons of the Confederate Veterans and The Ladies of Charles B. Harris Chapter #2531 United Daughters of the Confederacy. The program was very impressive. The marker was unveiled by GGGGGGranddaughters of Mark Caudle, Katti Alexander and Katherine Tennessee Cunningham. Closing Prayer was by Gene Wright, husband of GGrandaughter Darlene Caudle Wright from California.

We returned to the shade trees by the church where dinner was served by the East Texas Caudles to about 100 family members and guests. Mr. Warren Penn, Sec./Treas. of Providence Cemetery was a special guest as were Deacon Pat Kirbo, and those taking part in the dedication.

After dinner a business meeting was called, the minutes and treasury report was read and approved. Roll call was made to see how many different families were in attendance. We had family members from Minnesota, Washington, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and all parts of Texas. Cheryl Caudle Lundemo, GGranddaughter from State of Washington traveled the longest distance to attend our gathering. Alma Betchan from Tulsa, Oklahoma was the oldest Caudle present.

Iva Caudle continued her talk on the research of the Caudle Families for the book Our Kin Past and Present, by Delma Turnbow Freeman.

Discussion was made and it was decided to organize the group. Since Bruce Cunningham as President, Barbara Munger as Vice President, and Mae Tanner as Sec./Treas. were elected in 2004, we only elected the following to the Board of Directors.

A time was not set for an October 2006 reunion because of the fire hazzard in Erath County, but we will meet in 2007, probably in the fall and in the Dublin Area.
