This photo, taken October 1997, shows the headstone prior to its repair in the spring of 2002.

William T. Lawson may be the brother of M. Reubin Lawson (b. 1859) and the father of Ethel B. E. Lawson also buried in this cemetery.

On page 65 of his book Purves, Ray Hancock writes that M. Reubin Lawson had Caudle relatives living near Purves and visited them in the late 1870s where he met his wife Mary Buchanan, daughter of T. N. Buchanan. Reubin Lawson (b. 1859) and William T. Lawson were probably sons of, or closely related to, William Lawson (b. 1842) who was married to Sarah Ann Gillentine. She was sister of Amanda Gillentine, wife of Marcus Newton Caudle.

Mary's father, T. N. Buchanan was married to Sarah Elizabeth Denton Petty (her first husband James Monroe Petty had died in 1875.) The two children, William and Mary (Mollie) Petty are listed in the 1880 census as stepchildren of T. N. Buchanan. Marcus Newton's brother George W. Caudle also lived near Marcus at that time. His wife was Lavina Petty. They were uncles to James Robert Caudle.
