About Candia Computer Consulting
Candia Computer
Consulting began business in 1993 to provide small and medium sized
businesses with custom built Microsoft Access PC applications when
commercial software to meet their unique business requirements was not
available. Our aim is to provide businesses without IT resources with
cost-effective and practical solutions to fundamental, real-world
business needs.
I grew up in Conway NH, and have been a
resident of NH for 50 years. I attended Illinois Institute of
Technology, majoring in Architecture, and afterwards enlisted in the
United States Marine Corps for 4 years including a tour of duty in Viet
Nam.
In 1973 I was hired by IBM Corporation,
and was employed as a Field Engineer in the Nashua, Manchester and
Concord areas. I maintained and repaired a wide variety of business
computing hardware, starting out with key punches, communicating
selectrics, and printers, and eventually moved up to mainframes, I/O
devices, store systems, PCs, ATMs, and banking systems. I retired from
IBM in 1992 after 20 years of service.
Since 1981 I have been heavily involved
with personal computers, both as a hobby and a possible career. My
first computer was a Texas Instruments TI/99A CPU with 3K (that's K not
M!) of memory, a cassette tape drive I/O device, and an old black
& white tv for a for a display. A rather meager beginning, but
my love of computers and computer programming led to me on to learn
Pascal, Turbo Basic, QBE, SQL, Lotus, and more recently Visual Basic
and HTML.
In 1983 a new concept in personal
computing arrived on the scene... shareware! I got a copy of Jim
Button's PC-File, a flat (non-relational) database program, and as far
as databases go... I haven't looked back since. I've programmed
applications in PC-File, RBase,DBase, Approach, Paradox, FoxPro, Visual
Basic, and all versions of MS Access, from V2.0 to V2003. I've found
that relational databases provide the power of a Word Processor, a
Spreadsheet, and a Database... all in one integrated vehicle.
In 2007, 2008, and 2009, I received the Microsoft MVP
(Most Valuable Professional) award for my work assisting
Access users on the Microsof newsgroups.. and my pro bono community
work for the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire, and the Manchester
Animal Shelter.
As Confuscius once said, "Find a job that
you love, and you'll never work a day in your life." For me, that job
is programming applications that solve problems. A joy as well as a
job... |
