Educated at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University in foreign languages, computer science and linguistics, I worked as a computational linguist for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1984 until 2006, when I took early retirement to pursue independent opportunities. I served a 2-year mission in Austria. I love languages, travel, genealogy, computers, books, humor, and helping people bring out their greatness. Firstborn Courtney served a mission in Samara, Russia. He has studied business administration at the University of Phoenix and owns Skyline Window Cleaning, a local home maintenance company. Courtney has a natural talent for business. He has a phenomenal ability to buy low and sell high, which started in school as he made mind-boggling amounts of money buying and selling Magic the Gathering cards. Uncanny sense of business. He would make a good stockbroker or a razor-sharp attorney, if he weren't so honest. Courtney married Mindy Hendricks on June 27, 2008. They are very happy!

Fortunata is an artist of exceptional skill. She has a gift for creating magnificent work in whatever medium she puts her hand do. She has spent time in Europe and Japan, has traveled extensively through the country selling her artwork, attends Burning Man whenever she can, and is currently ♬on the road again♬, living a more or less Freegan lifestyle, trying to create beauty with minimal impact on the Earth's resources. Michael David completed his schooling in Salt Lake City. During his senior year at Skyline High, he was president of the Troubadors, the male barbershop chorus. He has attended Utah State University and completed an associate's degree at Salt Lake Community College. He currently works as some sort of high-powered muckamuck for Overstock.com, and enjoys his work there very much. MikeD has numerous interests, and only time will tell which one will carry him to greatness.

A short story:
One day in New York, around 1969, I stopped to use the phone in a pub, and while there I struck up a conversation with the bartender. The conversation turned to languages, and when I told him that I enjoyed learning them he said to me, " Well, don't learn Gaelic ". This ominous warning piqued my curiosity, and that very day I went and found a copy of Teach Yourself Irish by Myles Dillon and Donncha Ó Cróinin.
Pronunciation was a problem; it would take a native speaker to help me understand that Laoghaire, for instance, is pronounced Leary. So I set the book aside until about 1990, when I discovered an Irish course in my local library system, Cúrsa Gaeilge by the Linguaphone Institute. With the help of this "Rosetta Stone", unfortunately out of print, I began making progress. Since then I have discovered numerous excellent courses both in print and on the net. If you're interested in learning Irish, I would recommend Learning Irish by Michael Ó Siadhail; Teach Yourself Irish; or Buntús Cainte; Rosetta Stone announced their first-level Irish course on 14 March 2008, and their methodology is very effective.
I have been enchanted by this intriguing language and its intriguing speakers. In 1998 I fulfilled a lifetime dream to visit Ireland with my family, and spent a week in Abbeyville Cottage in Cill Mocheallog (Kilmallock). We explored the Dingle peninsula and stopped in the Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) area of Baile an Fhirtéaraigh (Ballyferriter); nearly fell off the cliffs of Moher; saw Waterford crystal being made; experienced a medieval dinner at Bunratty Castle near Limerick; explored the rock of Cashel; went horseback riding in a brisk Irish rain; attended church meetings in Tralee; kissed the Blarney stone and dined at the Deanery in Cork... I'm afraid all it did was whet my appetite for more. The reality far exceeded the expectation. A blessing on this lovely land and its equally lovely people.

In 1986, while attending a MacWorld convention in San Francisco, a random vendor shoved a cassette into my hand. "Hey, free stuff," I thought, and jammed it into my bag along with all the other brochures, pens, sponge toys and trash that one gathers at such an event. What I didn't know was that I had just been given an album by Jan-Edward Vogels, some of the prettiest, most soothing keyboard music I had ever heard. Politics
I believe in a world that works for everyone, with no one left out. That makes it hard to declare membership in either of the dominant political parties, because there's so much partisanship - it seems as though each party wants to cut out half the world. I look at issues, support the concept of limited government, and hope to make a difference by voting for people who seem genuinely interested in building a better world. I watch the Truth-O-Meter from the St. Petersburg Times to try to cut through the screeds on both sides of the aisle, and get most of my news from the BBC.
