January 2011
It has been a while that I havent posted something about mini, so here we go, she has gotten fat and lazy :(
I am trying to get her to run at home and move more but it takes time. She loves to sleep in the mornings with me and nap with me I have some time for it. With liset my cousin, living with me, she is loving the company and getting used to people and two in my bed. Her diet is still strict but it all comes down to how much does she move.. well, not much, so we have to make her burn some calories.
She now lets me touch her belly and massage her and is very responsive to love and affection.
She still things is time to nap on my abs mat.

February 2010
Mini has grown older and cuter and more adorable with years. She completely trusts me and will jump on my lap or my legs or will sleep with me in the couch and my bed daily.
If I am watching tv she will cudle next to me or if I am eating on the couch. If I go to bed early she will sleep with me with her front legs and head on my pillow.
She will move around during the night but very often she will sleep with me in the morning and will wake me up at 4am most every night to say hi or to feed her some dry food in her bowl.
She greets me when I come from work and has learned to drink water from the kitchen sink and jump on the counter and launge there.
I have been playing with her as a mode of excersise when I come back from work and she loves it and very exited waits for me to play with the whip.
She also tries to do yoga or abs or streching when I am in my floor mat. She is so loving now and trusting I am so thankful for her.

June 2007

Mini has done a lot of progress, she now sleeps near where I am, if in living room she would snuggle near me in the sofa or up in her condo, if in my bedroom she would be in the bed or near but of course in the middle of the night she would climb up to her cat condo in the living room which seems her favorite space. She now lets me carry her like a baby for at least 1 minute and sometimes more while padding her. She gives me nose kisses and lots of love. She is so comfortable with people now, saying hi and being among them. She loves our morning routine, waking up when I wake up and keeping company in the kitchen while I prepare and then waiting near the bathroom until I am out. My dad met her the other day and she loved him.. she loved my mom but she was scared and eventually scratched her. She got into the habit of coming inside my covers and sleeping there for a while in the mornings during last winter looking for warmth. That was priceless. See her now

September 2006

The first time that she rolled over and let me massage her belly. It was the 15 of September, I was about to have a Coromoto rehearsal at my place and as I was showing my cat to one of the singers she rolled on her back and open her legs to welcome my hand in her belly. I was in shock.. I stayed like that for a while until she finally said enough. Big milestone!! she hasn't done it again but she is making progress. On the 29 she crawled in the sofa with me at night and let herself inside the fleece sheets that were covering me she just cuddled there for a bit. Big improvement too.

April 2006

I happy write to you to announce that Emma (aka mini) has officially become a lap cat. Well the story is that I illegally put a fleece blanket on my lap and watched TV, next thing I know she jumped to my lap and knitted there for a while and laid to sleep. I was so so happy I almost made her uncomfortable but I resisted and stayed still as long as I could hold. Well not too long still with her 14lbs my legs became numb and I had to move her.

Last night while watching TV with the same blanket and my legs stretched she again thought my belly was a good fleece covered place to knit and lay to sleep.. hehe I love that she is comfortable with me now. In fact she sleeps at the height of my head now (whenever she wants to have a nap with me only). But if I find her sleeping in my bed I could lay in front of her and sleep too without her going away or pushing me with her legs or being alert. She can now relax in my presence sleeping and it is such an accomplishment. I have spent the most intimate 5 days with her on Easter weekend and I spent most of the time with her. She is so different now.. she even stays in my arms longer when I carry her, given I hold her back paws in my right hand. She purrs and stays. She now comes to greet me in the bathroom and even sits inside by the door sometimes. She has a new pink bed that I got her for last xmas and has now a pattern during the day: Morning wake up over bed to greet me, have a treat and eat, then wonder with me by kitchen while I prepare breakfast and get ready for work, then she goes on the top right corner under my bed over her blanket and sleeps before I leave. When I come from work i she greets promptly at the door and eats her wet food now reduced to an 1/8 of a small can and becomes happy to play. then she goes to sleep in any area that is close to where I am or comes with me to the kitchen to see what kind of food I am making that she can try or sit by me while I eat without sharing. Later in the night I give her another treat and then she picks the nightly bed place which changes everyday. She has grown into he habit of eating specialty grass that I grow for her by the window and if she doesn't have it she goes for my plants :-(

June 2005

She is finally loosing weight! now down to 14lb with the new diet with Solid Gold dry food and only .5oz of wellness wet food twice a day. She has also been wanting to sleep with me in the mornings in my bed but quickly she finds out not to get too attached ;-)

May 2005

Emma is very happy and adapted to my place now, she plays and lets me touch her paws and talks to me a lot, I even created a phonetic dictionary to understand what she was asking ;-). From calling her mininita (kitty in Spanish) so much she now responds to "Mini" instead of Emma, she is still overweight and I have tried a million things by now. She seems healthy and muscular and strong. She is fancy and down to earth. She plays everyday with a Swiss made wooden car cat toy as much as with some little catnip miniature fur mice. Her coat is superb and she seems to be the queen of the house. Michelle delivered her special plates so she thinks she is ROYAL. She likes to sleep in the chair on my bedroom sometimes but she has multiple beds around the house.

January 2005

She has so many places to sleep in the house specially designed for her. She likes a cardboard box whenever available. I also gave her a special throw for xmas that has a suede side on the outside like my sofas and lamb wool on the inside she loves to cuddle there she knits on it before going to bed and I wrap her with the rest once she is asleep. She likes her high 2 level condo that are covered in rug and she loves her sleeping pillow with suede fabric on the other side of the bench by the window. I also have 3 throws that she loves one is on her condo, the other one is on the dinning chairs which she loves to sleep in and on the chair on my bedroom. These all serve to hold the hair and keep my furniture clean. She is so funny, she only will go on my bed during the day over the down comforter when I wake up in the morning or during the night when I am working on her chair by the computer. She follows me everywhere except for the bathroom. She stays out when I shower, she is probably scared of my figure ;-) She gets curious sometimes, but she will wait by my bedroom door until I get out.

I got a new kitchen rug and she loves that too.. it is funny. She loves her play time after eating and she starts jumping and running all over the house if I don't start playing right away. She directs me to the whip toy to start playing. She also loves another kind of treat (breath freshener for cats called Pitr Pat) when I am about to give her the fishy shape treat she stands up in two feet and grabs it and stays eating it in two feet.

This morning she surprised me after I woke up to go next to me on my right side and decided she will share my pillow and she was so cute lengthwise with her head only on my pillow I let her stay. She likes to wonder in the hallways but as soon as the elevator beeps she runs inside.

She is still a "scardy" cat. But at least now she is very friendly with strangers, except for mat bolands guitar. She hisses at it as if it were a snake or the vacuum cleaner.

August 2004

I adopted her after a long interviewing and approval process that started a in July 1. After I had decided I would adopt a pet and my coworker Matthew was part of Cat Action Team adoption center in Everett, MA, I decided to pick a cat. I went to the pet center on  7/1/04 Thursday with my friend from Spain Estrella and we both agreed I should take Emma home, by Friday I had submitted the application to adopt her online. Emma was an unfortunate cat to have been abandoned and found with other 45 cats in horrible living conditions. She was rescued from a toilet of a house in Chelsea, Massachusetts in January 2004 (see http://www.dukecitymuscle.com/chelsea/cat-astrophe.htm ). She had been in a cage for 6 months and was dying to go home.

I got a response from the center on Tuesday 7/6/04 and I went to see her several times after that first night on 7/8/04  Thursday I went with my friends Norma and Charlie who helped me pick the scratch pole that i would take home for Emma if I was approved. Later the next Monday 7/12/04 I went to see her again but she was sleeping. I got approved that week. I had researched all the list of things that I needed including the best dry cat food and the best wet canned food for cats. I got her the litter maid 500 automatic litter box machine with the tent and all, it works great!

Emma is very happy at her new home she adapted so quickly and is a loving well behaved cat. Below is the short story of her home coming after my 3rd visit at the center:

7/16/04 :Last night I went to the adoption center thinking it was another visit and it turned out to be the "A" Day!!!! (Adoption Day). So YES I brought her home last night!

From now on I will appoint July 16 as Emma's new birthday! So she is 1.5 years old now and so we will celebrate her half birthdays instead ;-)

Thank you so much for your  references it really helped get her home sooner and start a happy new life with me and my friends. And thank you Matthew and Thelma at work for such good advice and web links to read. They were very helpful to get everything ready for Emma last night.

Emma's 1.5 birthday story July 2004:

Last night she was so happy to even travel in her brand new carrier Port-A-Crate: (http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441780724&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302032906&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023689&bmUID=1089992927916)

We drove home with my trunk full of all her new home furniture and accessories. She was loving it in the back seat. Watching through the mesh and not scared at all.

We got to my place and she was so happy she couldn't stop purring the entire time. After wondering around the apartment and discovering all the layout (to see which was her favorite place) she followed me everywhere very excited as I laid out all her things in the right place. She quickly found the place where I was going to feed her and took some food to calm down her excitement.

Then my boyfriend at the time joined us a few minutes after and helped bringing the big scratching pole that I had picked with Norma and Charlie the night before. It fit perfectly in the corner in my bedroom but we decided to put it in the living room by the window. She loved my center rug in the living where she comfortably sat and cleaned herself while I was finishing organizing things and having dinner with my boyfriend.

She found a place in my walk-in closet, behind the fire box, under my long dresses as a perfect hiding place.. !

She liked to sleep under my bed and she very respectfully rejected my leopard print mat that I had gotten for her :-(. I guess she is as picky as my boyfriend ;-). Who by the way showed lots of love and tenderness towards Emma and who in turn jumped to his lap and said: More please!!

It looks like her family/home is complete. She will soon meet you all and she is already excited to use the dancing pads and compete. Also Emma can't wait to see and enjoy Michelle's had crafted and personally engraved bowls and of course, to get a special shot from our 'Star Photographer' for the bedroom wall.

You are all welcome to visit and meet Emma. She will be waiting at my place with a big smile!
