- Player of the Year Eddie Cohrs capped off his remarkable season by winning the Top 20 Shootout
yesterday. See all the results.
- Well, that concludes another year of the CCMGA. We hope to see you all next year. Meanwhile,
don't forget that the Colorado golf season runs through October 31st. Be sure to post all your
in-state scores through that date.
September 14, 2009
- Pete Pederson won his first CCMGA club championship yesterday in a thrilling battle with
Jeff Weiss that came down to the last hole. After Jeff had rolled in a 30 footer for
bogey, Pete was left with a tricky 12 foot downhill, sidehill putt for the win ... and drained
it! Pete's three day total was 225, nine over par. Ernie Ferguson (1st flight),
Tom Lechlak (2nd flight), Homer Conis (3rd flight) and Michael Frucht(4th flight) were the
other gross winners. See all the results.
- The Player of the Year standings are now final. The Top 20 players
are eligible to play in the Top 20 Shootout on September 27.
September 9, 2009
- Gary Billingsley/Jeff Armstrong defeated Eddie Cohrs/Robert Bent 6 & 4 to take
the Team Match Play title.
September 5, 2009
- Today was The Hard Course tournament, stroke play from the tips. For the guys playing in the
Championship Flight in the Club Championship next weekend, this was a taste of things to come.
Steve Tourault (73), Steve Crowe (74), and Mark Galvin (74) are looking pretty tough. Senior Champion
Jerry Beren also had a 74, but will miss next week's event. Check out all the
results.
- Phil Gates defeated Don Brown yesterday, 2 up, to win
the Match Play Championship. Unbelievably, this is Phil's
fifth Match Play title!
- Eddie Cohrs managed to clinch Player of the Year by finishing
third net in the second flight in the Hard Course. This is pretty remarkable since the upcoming Club Championship
is worth triple points (150 for first). Eddie has finished in the money in ten out of twelve
events. He also still has the Team Match Play final next week. He might lap the field!
Congratulations, Eddie.
August 22, 2009
- The Two-Man Total Strokes event was held today. This event simply takes the sum total (gross and net)
of the scores of each player on the two-man teams. The perfect conditions and low rough led to
some very low scores. See the results.
- Eddie Cohrs, once again finished in the money (third net in the third flight), increasing his lead to
180 points over Tom Lechklak in the Player of the Year race. He could
very well clinch the title before the club championship!
August 9, 2009
- Today was the ABCD/123 event. In this unusual format, teams
are comprised of an A, B, C and D player. The team score is based on best ball net, with the number
of scores used varying by the following formula. On hole 1, the single best net of the team is used.
On hole 2, the two best nets are used. On hole 3, the three best nets make up the team score. This sequence
repeats every three holes. The team of Kendall / Cohrs / Hill / Dedisse won by six shots with a score of 120 (23 under).
Here are all the results.
- Eddie Cohrs, part of the winning team, is pulling away in the race for
Player of the Year.
July 29, 2009
- The Hard Course tournament has been moved up one day to Saturday September 5th to
avoid a conflict with the CU/CSU football game. See the schedule.
July 26, 2009
- The CCMGA's second major of the year was completed today - the Member/Member, two
days of best ball net. The course played relatively easy, with the rough way down from
what it's been, the greens rolling pretty true, and mild weather. This led to a remarkable
number of anecdotal personal bests. Congratulations to Dave Snyder and Jon Meng who were the winners
with a new tournament record of 58-59=117 (27 under!) and to all who finished in the money. See all
the results.
- Please note that the Calcutta results were slightly
different as Ken only paid 10 places (instead of 11), and had no tie breakers. So these results
were: 1. Snyder/Meng (117), 2. Cohrs/Gartner (122), T3. Schory/Warner, Mills/Calhoun, Bent/Longmore (123),
T6. Jerry Walker/Bill Leuschel, Wegley/McMaster (125), T8. Wagner/Chely (126)
9. Evans/Stodola (127), T10. McCurry/Hill, Phil Leuschel/Wilcox (128)
- Eddie Cohrs, by finishing second with partner Drew Gartner and by his play in both match play
events, is the new leader for Player of the Year.
July 12, 2009
- The 2-Man Chapman, an odd variation of alternate shot, was played today.
Jeff Weiss / Luke Wolstenholme were low gross in flight one with a 68, including five birdies
(although no skins!). Tom Lechlak / Steve Berens took low gross in flight two with a 75.
Also of note, Mark Vallee had a hole-in-one on #17 with an 8 iron. Check out all
the results.
- Phil Gates, who didn't play today, took the lead in the Player of the Year
race by making it to the final eight in the match play championship.
June 29, 2009
- This weekend was the Senior Club Championship, a two day event, open to
all golfers age 50 and older. Jerry Beren, with a two day gross total of 148 (four over par)
is the new Senior Champion! Last year's winner, Ken Madsen, finished second, three shots
back. The low net winner was Rory Burke, with a net total of 135 (nine under par).
Check out all the results.
- We also held an Individual Stroke tournament on Sunday for those of you less long in the tooth.
Dave Bell was the low gross winner in the first flight with a 74, while Kris Schoech's 80
took the low gross honors in flight two. See all the results.
- Dave Bell's win makes him the new leader in the race for Player of the Year.
June 13, 2009
- The Member/Guest was held today and we even managed to finish
before a nasty lightning and hale storm blew in. Due to all the rain
these past few weeks, the course was playing very long. Despite
beautiful greens (nice work, Coal Creek!), the length and
some nasty rough on the back nine, led to some much higher than usual
scores. Typically, you need to shoot 63 or better in this event to be
in the money, but this year there were only three scores that met that
mark. Eddie Cohrs/James Morrissey won flight two with the a tournament
best 60; Tom Lechlak/John Lumley won flight one with a 63; and
Phil Gates/Andrew Hofelder won flight three with a surprisingly high 66.
See all the results.
- By winning his second straight event and also moving into the money
in Match Play, Phil Gates is now leading the Player of the Year
standings.
May 31, 2009
- This weekend was our first "major" of the year - the Ryder Cup. This two-man event is nine holes
each of best ball net, scramble, Chapman and alternate shot. We had a huge turnout, with 52 teams,
104 players. Even the weather cooperated, as the afternoon storms that were forecast never materialized.
In the first flight, Dave Bell and Brian Harris won a
tie-breaker at 127, 17 under par. Kent Nuzum and Phil Gates shot a 19 under 125 to win the second flight.
And John Reilly / Homer Conis broke the tournament record with a 21 under par 123, which included
an unbelievable 60 for the much tougher second day formats. Check out all
the results.
- By winning the third flight, Homer Conis is the new leader in the race for
Player of the Year.
May 18, 2009
- Yesterday was the Modified Stableford tournament, played under perfect weather
for a change. Peter T. Umekubo, Ron Calhoun, Steven Berens and Vern Dedisse
were the low gross winners in their respective flights. Check out all
the results.
- By winning the second flight, CCMGA rookie Ron Calhoun has taken the lead
for Player of the Year.
May 3, 2009
- Yesterday was the Really Easy Course tournament, stroke play from the red tees, a
CCMGA first.
Actually, it was not so easy because it was also the Really Crappy Greens tournament. The
greens had been aerated a few days earlier and there was an unbelievably thick layer of sand
applied, making them almost unplayable. Only Marty Gallagher shot his handicap, which required
a player to equal or better net 64, since the course rating was estimated to be 64.6. Marty shot
a 73 (net 63) to win low gross in the second flight.
See all the results.
- With a second gross finish in the second flight, Jery Walker is our early
leader for Player of the Year.
April 27, 2009
- Hey, we finally got in a tournament! The 2-Man Ultra-Modified Stableford was held yesterday.
In this format, players received from 0 points for a double bogey, up to 5 points for a double eagle.
Each players' hole scores were then multiplied together for a team score. My brain is still sore from
checking everyone's score cards. Ken Madsen / Jerry Beren were the low gross winners in flight one
with 65 points. Cary Tengler / Don Brown won low gross in the second flight with 40 points.
Congratulations to all who managed to shake off the rust and finish in the money.
See all the results.
April 21, 2009
- The Match Play brackets have been posted. Due to the record number of players (75)
and the limitations of our tournament software, I had to break the field into two random flights:
the Arnold Palmer Flight and the
Bobby Jones Flight. The winners of these two flights
will play each other for the championship. First round matches (those of you without byes) must
be completed by May 10th.
- The Team Match Play bracket is also now up. First round matches
(those of you without byes) must be completed by May 17th.
April 19, 2009
- This is getting. Today's 4-Man / 2-Best Balls event was cancelled due to the course
being covered in snow.
April 4, 2009
- We're 0 for 2. Today's Individual Stroke Play event was also snowed out.
April 3, 2009
- The Ultra Modified Stableford tournament, which was snowed-out on March 28, has been
re-scheduled for Sunday April 26. It is no longer a shotgun start, but will have
tee times beginning at 9:00 a.m. Everyone must re-sign up for this event.
March 29, 2009
- The Ultra Modified Stableford tournament was cancelled due to the snow on the ground. Stay
tuned for information on a make-up date.
February 28, 2009
