January '98 Volume 3.1
I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I hope one of your New Year’s resolutions is to improve your golf game. I know it is one of mine. It’s only January, but I can’t wait until April 5th. That’s right, April 5th is the first Men’s Club tournament for 1998.
The entire board and I are excited for 1998. I know this year is going to be FUN and educational for all us. We have many exciting events planned for the upcoming year, not only tournaments, but also clinics and special guest speakers. The purpose for the Coal Creek Men’s Club is of course to play golf, but in 1998 we want to make it even more than that. With handicaps in our club ranging from 0 to 33 you can see that there are not many of us that will be joining the PGA Tour this spring. With that in mind I want to make sure each member knows my objectives for the Coal Creek Men’s Club for 1998. Play lots of golf, enjoy your fellow Men’s Club members, and most important, have fun and make the club the best in the state.
My goal for total members in 1998 is 225, an increase of approximately 40 members. If you have any question about a tournament, a ruling, or a suggestion on how we can improve the Coal Creek Men’s Club, please feel free to contact me at any time. Remember to get your dues in because April 5th is just around the corner.
HAPPY PUTTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Tuesday Night League match play tournament will commence on May 5 this year and, like last year, will run for 14 weeks, through August 4, 1998. A separate entry form is enclosed. Note that there is an increase in the entry fee for this year, from $40 to $60. This increase will ensure that the Tuesday Night League is financially self-sustaining and, at the same time, provide for an increase in payouts. All entries must be received by CCMGA no later than Friday, April 10, and are limited to the first 24 teams that enter.
Unfortunately, last year some teams were late getting their entries in and could not be accommodated. I encourage you to get your teams organized and the entry forms in soon. Entries are accepted on a first come, first served basis. If you have any suggestions for improving the format this year or comments concerning the Tuesday Night League, you may call me at home.

The Wednesday Morning Strokers will have a change in dues, due to certain costs (ask Bill P). They will increase to $50. Regular club members can play with the WMS by paying extra dues.
There will be a "Strokers" tournament in August. To qualify, you need to play six Wednesdays with the Strokers. We will have three places for low net and three places for low gross, and trophies for first low net and first low gross. All games will be played from the white tees. We will also have ten holes as prize holes, four closest to the pin on the par threes, closest to pin with second shot on #6, long drive in fairway on #8, long putt (first try) on #2, #9, and #18, and closest to line on #16.

The USGA has modified the Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) for all you single digit handicappers. A player with a course handicap of 9 or less can record a score of double bogey on any hole. This replaces the old rule that stated a player could take a maximum of 6 on any hole.
The remainder of the ESC procedure will remain the same.
| Handicap | Max Score |
|---|---|
| 0 - 9 | Double Bogey |
| 10 - 19 | 7 |
| 20 - 29 | 8 |
| 30 - 39 | 9 |
| 40 on up | 10 |
The inactive season will end on March 12th.
The handicap computer will awaken and call the USGA computer to download any scores you may have posted at a course that did not have an inactive season. (Hopefully you posted all your scores at your winter course in Maui.) Please post all 9 and 18 hole rounds played after March 12th., the computer will accept scores at that time.
I have not received a schedule as to when the new handicap cards will be printed and sent out. As soon as I get the schedule, I will post it next to the handicap computer so you can pick up your updated cards, which will also be on the table near the computer.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call or send me an e-mail.

Coal Creek is participating in a new Titleist program that will allow CCMGA members to purchase Titleist golf balls at cost. The prices are as follows (per dozen):
| Tour Balata | $24.00 |

The golf balls will have the Coal Creek Golf Course logo on one side and a CCMGA logo on the other side. Due to the limited amount available each member will be limited to 2 dozen. Order must be placed by March 15, and must be included with your club application. Payment in advance is required.
Welcome,
The winter has set in and it is time to plan and prepare for the 1998 golf season. Here at Coal Creek we have been busy putting together tournament schedules and new polices, and chipping in the ProShop.
A major change in policy: Coal Creek Golf Course is now a mandatory spikeless facility. We anticipate that this will allow us to provide improved putting surfaces and less turf disease spread by foot traffic.
We hope that all participants in the Coal Creek Golf Associations were pleased with the improvements in course conditions that were made in 1997. We will strive to continue this progress in 1998. We hope that all will pitch in and go the extra mile to make Coal Creek the outstanding facility that we all know it can be.
We look forward to the warmer weather a great golf season and the first leaves on the trees.
Until then, land it short!
