WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2014 is the NEXT MEETING

The next meeting is on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Las Palmas clubhouse, 519 Albee Farm Road, Venice, from 7 to 9 PM.

PLEASE turn right after entering the driveway and park in one of the unnumbered spots along the fence at the far right. Parking near the clubhouse is NOT allowed. Those spots at the clubhouse are only to be used for drop off or unloading, if necessary, and then the car must be moved to the approved area.

DO NOT PARK IN THE RESIDENTS' NUMBERED SLOTS.

Visitors and guests are always welcome to attend our meetings.

UPCOMING for the NOVEMBER MEETING

Much as we may want to avoid it, we really do need to hold elections for new club officers. If you value the club and can attend most meetings, please consider volunteering to fill a slot. A lot of you pitch in to help out but we do need some names to fill in after the titles.

Jeff Moates, regional director FPAN from USF, will be speaking about Indian Artifacts from this area. FPAN, the Florida Public Archaeology Network, has a mission to promote and facilitate the conservation, study and public understanding of Florida's archaeological heritage. They have a website that you can access online.

As always, we want to see and discuss any new fossils you've found. Tables are provided at the rear of the room to display your finds. We'll also have a raffle at the end of the meeting. Gary and Brandon O'Neill, from New Zealand, have sent the club some fossils from their area. After displaying them, they will be added to the raffle along with any other items donated.

HIGHLIGHTS from OCTOBER

Club member, Kim Westberry, gave an interesting account of her summer fossil adventures out west and displayed some of the fossils she found. She'll bring in more for us to see after she has had a chance to prep them. Dean Hart announced that he has secured a trip to one of the Mosaic pits on Jan. 17, 2015. Our club will be allowed 15 members. More information and sign-up will be at either the Dec. or Jan. meeting. Treasurer, Helen Gardner, reported that the club's bank account has a balance of $1800.

NOTES & NOTICES

A printed copy of the newsletter will no longer be mailed via the USPS and will be sent via email only. If you are not receiving it, I don't have a valid email address for you. Please make sure to print it carefully after your name on the sign-in sheet or email me at ccopas@comcast.net

Because the newsletter is no longer being printed to include the date that your dues are due, all dues will become due and payable in January of each year. Remember, if you can't make the meetings to pay in person, dues may be mailed to the P.O. box listed on the form below.

Meetings will be on the 2nd Wednesday of the month except during the summer. You can check the newsletter online at for up to date information.
