WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9, 2014 is the NEXT MEETING

The next meeting is on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the Las Palmas clubhouse, 519 Albee Farm Road, Venice, from 7 to 9 PM.

PLEASE turn right after entering the driveway and park in one of the unnumbered spots along the fence at the far right. Parking near the clubhouse is NOT allowed. Those spots at the clubhouse are only to be used for drop off or unloading, if necessary, and then the car must be moved to the approved area.

DO NOT PARK IN THE RESIDENTS' NUMBERED SLOTS.

Visitors and guests are always welcome to attend our meetings.

UPCOMING for the APRIL MEETING

Club business will be addressed first and then the meeting will be turned over to our own Bob Morgan and his impressive fossil display. Bob's display represents only a fraction of his collection but is always more than enough to wow us and give us incentive.

If you are signed up for the SMR trip, see Terry Raymond for details, and pay the required $15.

A raffle will be held at the end of the meeting, if enough fossil associated material is donated to the raffle table. And, as always, we want to see and discuss any new fossils you've found. Tables are provided at the rear of the room to display your finds.

If you haven't paid your dues yet this year, they may be mailed to the address on the form below.

HIGHLIGHTS from MARCH

Dean Calamaras opened the meeting and welcomed 5 new members. He announced the Venice Museum and Archives will have an outdoor fossil "fest" on April 19 from 10 to 2 in their parking lot. Treasurer, Helen Gardner, announced that we have $2100. in our account and will be making a $200. donation to the U of Fl. scholarship program through Bruce McFadden, and pay for a cleaning of the club's meeting room rug.

Bill Howat gave a PowerPoint presentation on the meeting he attended in Gainsville as our club's representative. The FOSSIL project is designed to bring together professional and amateur paleontologists for the benefit of all. The Fossil Engine, http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/myfossil/ is accessable online. We are among 30 fossil clubs participating.

Carol Copas asked for volunteers to do a fossil "dig" for the Fruitville Elementary School. Debbie Morrison said she'd go along with Carol. No one volunteered to speak to The SunCoast Reef Rovers, a local dive club, that is also looking for a speaker at a future meeting. Sign-up was held for the SMR dig in May. A $15.00 fee will be charged and details made available at the April meeting. Terry Raymond is in charge. Another fun raffle was held. 31 signed in
