The next meeting is on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the Las Palmas clubhouse, 519 Albee Farm Road, Venice, from 7 to 9 PM.
PLEASE turn right after entering the driveway and park in one of the unnumbered spots along the fence at the far right. Parking near the clubhouse is NOT allowed. Those spots at the clubhouse are only to be used for drop off or unloading, if necessary, and then the car must be moved to the approved area.

UPCOMING for the MARCH MEETING
Bill Howat, our club's representative, will give a PowerPoint presentation based on what he learned at the recent FOSSIL project meeting. He'll also build on that with his personal experiences at the North American Paleontological Convention in Gainesville.
Sign-up for a limited number of spots for the May 25th SMR dig will be held.
Club business will be addressed and a raffle held if enough fossil associated material is donated to the raffle table. And, as always, we want to see and discuss any new fossils you've found. Tables are provided at the rear of the room to display your finds.
If you haven't paid your dues yet this year, see treasurer Helen Gardner at the meeting or mail them to the address on the form below.
HIGHLIGHTS from FEBRUARY
Dean Hart announced that sign-up for the May 25th SMR dig will be at the March meeting. We will be allowed 10 spots. Also announced: March 28 thru 30; Paynes Creek State Park camping/fossiling trip with the Lee County club. Contact Pam Plummer @ 239-246-5993, or email@example.com . The Fossil Club of Lee County show will be Dec 6, 2014 at The Shell Factory. The Shell Factory is putting together a small museum and looking for fosil and mineral donations. Pam Plummer is the contact person. National Fossil Day, Oct. 4, 2014, at the South Florida Museum. (Bradenton). Contact Pam Plummer if you have donations for their kids' fossil "dig" or wish to sell or display fossils.
Terry Raymond reported on the Mosaic trip. Fossils from the trip were also displayed on the back tables. Dean Calamaras mentioned the upcoming Tampa Bay Fossil Fest the the Florida Fairgrounds on March 15 and 16. He also said there are plans being made for a fossil show and workshop at the Venice Museum.
John Colagrande gave an entertaining powerpoint presentation on the naming of fossils: how the names are arrived at; the rules governing them; and some of the odd choices that have been made. For more information, visit ICZN ( http://iczn.org/ ). Another fun raffle was held. 25 signed in

Because the newsletter is no longer being printed to include the date that your dues are due, all dues will become due and payable in January of each year. Remember, if you can't make the meetings to pay in person, dues may be mailed to the P.O. box listed on the form below.
